Assistant Manager – Lighterage Jetty Operation

Functional Activities:

• Lead operational strategy for lighterage jetty operations to meet the organizational objectives while ensuring full compliance with BSRM standards & Practices.
• Supervise the lighterage jetty related activities/ initiatives in line with the business strategy.
• Leverage idle jetty capacity to generate additional revenue trough non-BSRM business opportunities.
• Monitor lighter vessel operations, including turnaround time (TAT), loading at the outer anchorage, discharge at the jetty.
• Verify vessel’s statutory documents and other necessary evidences including availability of the general arrangement (GA) plan, stability booklet, govt. registration docs, etc.
• Ensure the inspection of cargo hold seals, verify boat notes, and ensure safe berthing of the vessel at the jetty.
• Ensure jetty/ghaat preparation aligns with the guidelines prior to material unloading.
• Implement and monitor safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
• Prepare and submit hourly/daily/weekly/monthly ghaat / jetty utilization reports as per the prescribed format given by the logistics department.
• Ensure the availability and effective utilization of equipment by monitoring overall process/production effectiveness (OPE), and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
• Ensure availability of necessary numbers of the vehicle / pay loader / cranes / material handler in good conditions for continuity of the jetty / ghaat operations.
• Identify the losses, monitor loss-cost matrix through preparing pareto analysis, data representations, OEE calculations and to drive cost-saving initiatives related to ghaat / jetty operations.
• Liaison properly amongst the transport agents, C&F agents, security team, labor dept, and third-party surveyors (BV/TCIS).
• Escalating issues related to delays, resource unavailability, or other concerns to the management through proper channel.
• Facilitate the lighter vessel program to ensure seamless operations.
• Assist Vessel Operation In charge as well as the Inbound logistics in charge to prepare the mother vessel lightening program upon making lighter vessel’s organizing schedule.
• Monitor market trends in lighterage and terminal charges to maintain competitive operational costs.
• Ensure data management, statistical research and feasibility study under the periphery of the role.
• Ensure that everyone at the ghat wears appropriate PPE (helmets, gloves, safety shoes, life jackets, etc.) while on the jetty and during operations, regardless of their role, whether management, non-management, contractual, or third-party etc.
• Promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Coordination:

• Coordinate with surveyors to conduct draft surveys, confirming sender records against current records.
• Coordinate between logistics and ground labour to optimize vehicle turnaround times for loading and unloading operations.
• Coordinate with the all internal and external stake holders to ensure operational alignment and the timely resolution of issues.
