Responsibilities & Context

We are looking for experienced Social & Labour Manager with strong knowledge and practical experience of working with labour rights & stakeholder management in garment industry, including assessing, monitoring, assisting, and driving social & labor performance across factories in our supply chain.

You will join a growing team within our Bangladesh function,as a part of Bangladesh Responsible Sourcing team to support implementation of Social & Labour strategy which focuses on promoting ethical sourcing practices and mitigating risks for workers, manufactures and BESTSELLER.

Social & Labour Manager position will direct report to the Country Manager, Dhaka.

More specifically, your tasks will include:-

  • Lead and develop BESTSELLERs Social & Labour Team in Bangladesh.
  • Lead, motivate and build capacity of the BESTSELLER Social & Labour team in Bangladesh, effectively developing colleagues through delegating tasks and responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement BESTSELLERs Responsible Sourcing and Human Rights Due Diligence strategies in Bangladesh.
  • Work in partnership with suppliers to drive continuous improvements in line with BESTSELLER Responsible Sourcing expectations and requirements.
  • Engage with Bangladesh industry stakeholders such as RSC, Trade Unions, Business associations, NGO’s etc. to ensure strong stakeholder relations and communication, as well as consideration of stakeholder perspectives into BESTSELLER Responsible Sourcing and Human Rights Due Diligence strategies for Bangladesh.
  • Lead the handling of critical factory labour rights cases and facilitate negotiations and resolution of the cases between employers and their representatives as well as workers and their representatives.
  • Ensure global protocols and SOPs are followed and contribute to continuous improvement of standards and to ensure alignment with local context and needs.
  • Support suppliers to improve performance according to BESTSELLER Social & Labour standards, targets, and rating systems.
  • Guide the Social & Labour team in independently conducting Social & Labour verifications and performance assessments in a timely and professional manner, and ensure stringent follow up according to company SOPs.
  • Lead and facilitate resolution of critical factory labour rights cases, with a keen eye for navigating different stakeholder interests and conflicts.
  • Close communication with trade unions, trade bodies, NGOs, and authorities to support strong stakeholder relation and that BESTSELLER strategies are aligned with stakeholder expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal Commercial and Responsible Sourcing teams to source and assess suppliers and factories.
  • Close collaboration with Denmark head office on BESTSELLER Global Responsible Sourcing strategies and Local strategies for Bangladesh.
  • Develop BESTSELLER supplier training, engagement and capacity building programmes in BD with a focus on driving stable Social & Labour performance and continuous improvements.
  • Professionally represent BESTSELLER at external meetings and seminars (e.g., Accord, RSC, ETI, ACT), update and align with DK Responsible Sourcing teams in head office.
  • Provide routine analysis of local, political, cultural and social issues which may impact upon BESTSELLER stakeholder relations, and keep all internal stakeholders updated on potential risks and opportunities.
  • Travel: Extensive national travel, and some international travel should be expected.
  • Success criteria:
  • Understanding, implementing, and contributing to BESTSELLER Responsible Sourcing strategy and targets.
  • Securing a competent and motivated Social & Labour Team that is empowered to work independently, make decisions, and manage their own areas of responsibility.
  • Showing ability to lead and delegate to the team, while maintaining an overview and driving the strategic agenda.
  • Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relations within the Bangladesh RMG industry
  • Creating and driving positive social & labour impact in BESTSELLER Bangladesh Supply Chain
  • Ensuring BESTSELLER suppliers are updated on BESTSELLER expectations and industry trends.
  • Creating understanding and ownership of sustainability with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acting as a good role model according to BESTSELLER’s founding principles.
