Responsibilities & Context

The British Asian Trust is a diaspora-led international development organisation, delivering high-quality programmes in South Asia. We specialise in, and champion the use of, social finance products to drive positive change across the region. Our programmes across South Asia are focused on the areas of education, livelihoods, anti-trafficking, mental health, and conservation.

In 2019 we launched our programmes in Bangladesh with 3 key focus areas

• Climate Innovation Fund: Creating a Fund to support initiatives offering solutions to enable climate adaptation and resilience for the most vulnerable communities.

• Mental Health: Supporting better mental health and wellbeing for communities and young people, through improved access to services.

• Social Finance: Exploring opportunities for development and delivery of innovative finance mechanisms to address some of the challenges.

Job purpose

With a growing portfolio of programmes in Bangladesh, we need an experienced and thoughtful Programme Manager who will manage current partnerships and work to grow them in collaboration with the Bangladesh Director. This will include enabling the design and development of programmes, identifying strategic and delivery partners, enabling quality execution of all our work, monitoring impact and ensuring problem solving as needed. In addition, the Programme Manager would also work closely with the Director to ensure we grow our profile, our funding partnerships and operations in country.

Main responsibilities

• Ensure proper management of all current partners and projects to the highest standards and ensure proper grant management, MEL and problem solving as required.

• Develop and design thoughtful and strategic programmes and scope out potential partners that will help us create impact.

• Contribute to building relationships with and managing stakeholders and supporting the establishment of BAT in Bangladesh.

• Support and contribute to wider programmes and BAT team and strategy as required.

Ensure proper management of all current partners and projects to the highest standards and ensure proper grant management, MEL and problem solving as required.

• Ensure proper management and delivery of all projects to ensure outcomes are achieved within budget, including all grant management and compliance is adhered to BAT standards

• Ensure work planning, problem solving, due diligence, payments reporting, information management and governance as needed working closely with the Central programmes team.

• Undertake review, learning and critical analysis to ensure that the projects and programmes continue to deliver effectively, making improvements as needed.

• Work closely with members of the programme fundraising team and comms team to manage funding partnerships and deliver comms requirements for the programme.

Develop and design thoughtful and strategic programmes and scope out potential partners that will help us create impact and ensure ongoing relationship management.

• Work closely with Bangladesh Director and others to set programme strategy and ensure ongoing review and design based on plans, theories of change, ensuring all partnerships are developed in line with programme strategy.

• Explore new opportunities and drive strategic partnerships and programmes to deliver on our ambition- working with ambiguity to create impactful projects.

• Proactively participating in sector networking and learning events contributing where possible and bringing new ideas and learning into BAT programmes.

• Own the programme and technical technical information required to support the team to raise funds to establish and grow these programmes.

Contribute to building relationships with and managing critical stakeholders and supporting the establishment of BAT in Bangladesh.

• Enable regular content and collateral for programmes to enable communications for key stakeholders- input into newsletters, updates and meetings to keep Bangladesh on the agenda.

• Support Bangladesh Director to manage Advisory Council, BAT Bangladesh events and build profile for the organization through engagement and sector collaboration.

• Plan and manage donor and BAT supporters’ visits to projects.

• Ensure high quality reporting on all projects, including analysis, case studies and photographs.

Support and contribute to wider programmes and BAT team and strategy as required.

• Actively contribute to the development and delivery of wider programme strategy and contribute to Central Programmes function and team meetings.

• Actively contribute to and support wider British Asian Trust activities and initiatives, supporting cross team and organizational work as needed.

• Consistently demonstrate the values and principles of British Asian Trust.

Person Specification and Job-related knowledge, skills and experience

· Substantial experience of designing and working on dynamic and complex programmes.

· Significant programme and partner management experience, including finance, MEL, design, reporting amongst others, working with a diverse range of organisations and projects

· Good understanding of the development landscape in Bangladesh and the public, private and civil society institutions that operate there

· Some experience of fundraising, and business development, developing new partnerships with corporates, bilaterals and other donors

· Experience of stakeholder or client management- existing relationships with businesses, NGOs and government institutions

· Ability to analyse, problem solve, and make recommendations based on clear and concise information and presentation

· Entrepreneurial, self-starter, able to work well independently, as well as with a team

· Good communication and presentation skills (written and oral), Bengali and English required
