Medical Doctor- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Valid and Updated BMDC registration. Essential 2-year experience Mental Health clinical work in INGO or NGO or Hospital or Clinic. Essential Mh GAP training Desirable Having post Graduate training on Psychiatry.Essential English Language and Bangla. Desirable: Chittagonian Dialect

Responsibilities & Context

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention.
  • Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits , consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material.
  • Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care. Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected. Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, and directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary. Consulting regular patients including new (emergency/ severe agitated) and follow up, Prescribing psychotropics as per mhGAP and MSF protocols.
  • Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
  • Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors.
  • Regular case discussion with Counsellor/psychologist to assess the need of psychotropic medication.
  • Ensuring patients physical well-being by doing basic screening test (Hep-B/C or HIV) and other possible test to exclude any chronic disease (DM/HTN/THYROID) as indicated.
  • Ensuring regular stock of medications by attending timely meeting with pharmacy in presence of MAM/ Expat psychiatrist. By collaboration with LAB, ensuring availability of routine investigation to the patients. Maintaining patient’s files and confidentiality.
  • Regular briefing with HP team to improve mental health awareness within community.
  • Joining training provided by MSF for personal /clinical development.
  • Plan outpatient appointments so these are spread throughout the working week.
  • Ensure differentiation of patient cohort into unstable [A] and stable into B] and [C]A. unstable patients to have one follow in 14 days or as required.B. are stable but need monthly follow upC. can be seen once in 3 months Implement the provision of repeat prescriptions for stable patients without review by MDs·
  • Provide liaison to the IPD patients and to ER as per request, providing training to other mental health staff, HP team and other national staff to improve awareness about mental health and to identify the patients in need of mental health intervention.
  • Routine case presentation in departmental meeting and peer (inter OC) meeting for better management of those patients with complicated mental health presentation and for continued professional development.
  • Provide training to other MDs across the hospital to develop skills in managing mental health comorbidities and promoting good mental health in all patients·
  • Provide supervision to other MDs working in the mental health department to develop their skills in diagnosis and management.
  • Using telemedicine platform for MH case discussion with the support from Mental Health activity manager and Medical activity manager.
  • Participate to Medical Incident Reporting and Prescription Audit to ensure standards of quality of care·
  •  Provides inputs on adolescent and child friendly activities inside the hospital organised by MH department.
