Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma.

Experience

  • Age at least 18 years
  • 1 year experience in counseling in SGBV program essential. Experience with NGO desirable.
  • Local language (Chittagonian/Rohingya Bengali) essential. Mission (English) language desirable.

Responsibilities & Context

Accountabilities

• Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients

• Actively promote the availability of counseling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.

• Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in order to propose the best support available.

• Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it.

• Keep files and statistics of daily activities.

• Participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other members of the MH team, preserving confidentiality

• Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.

• Take active part in training, supervisions/ intervisions and support the activities manager, when necessary, in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.

• Discuss difficulties and problems in counseling with supervisor.

MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities regarding our care for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence (“SV-counselor”):

• To provide comprehensive MH care to SV and IPV cases from OPD or IPD according to MSF protocol and plan follow-up consultations

• To be responsible for the proper documentation and data report of SV/IPV MH care according to the MSF standards and updated legal recommendations

• To seek technical support from the MH supervisor and the SV focal about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible care

• To timely report patient incidents or complicated cases to the SV Focal, MW supervisor and MH supervisor.

• To communicate the administrative needs of the SV program to the SV focal and MW supervisor.

• To work according to the roster prepared by the MH supervisor and to communicate any planned or unplanned absences with the MH and MW supervisor.

If time and workload allow, the SV-counselor will provide general counseling activities in the SRH department, IPD and MH department:

• To identify patients in need of MH support in the SRH cohort and IPD in close collaboration with the medical teams.

• To welcome new patients and perform their first assessment which includes a semi-structured interview about demographic and clinical variables and application of screening questionnaires. To ensure correct collection of this data.

• To be responsible for the correct organization of the patient’s files in the appropriate binder.

• To collect statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities and ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential. Specifically, to report data regarding new and discharged cases for the database.

• To inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective.

• To be the focal point in the link between the SRH department, the IPD, the MH department and beneficiaries.

• To support the group of Community Health Workers (TBAs, CBTMS), when needed, by providing clinical help during home visits: screening of presence and severity of symptoms, sensitization for need of care, or in-loco brief MH support.

• To assist MSF clinical and non-clinical professionals whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities.

• To be flexible in taking up additional tasks/responsibilities assigned by the supervisors.

Compensation & Other Benefits

Salary according to MSF salary grid (Level 5) BDT 56000, and loyalty step, if applicable. Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule.

Two (2) annual leave days per month worked.
