Requirements

Education

Responsibilities & Context

CONTEXT:

  • Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L Bangladesh) is a non-profit organisation established by Eau & Vie, a French NGO, that has been active in Bangladesh since 2010 to improve the living conditions of urban slum dwellers by implementing water networks, firefighting, hygiene promotion, sanitation, and solid waste management activities.
  • W&L Bangladesh works in close association with the social enterprise Shobar Jonno Pani Ltd. (SJP), also established by Eau & Vie, which is specialised in safe water supply for low -income communities who do not have access to water, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks, that are financially viable and adapted to the needs.
  • Both W&L Bangladesh and SJP engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operators, and other development stakeholders through two branches, one in Dhaka and the other one in Chattogram.

  • LOCATION: Based in Head Office, Gulshan 2, Dhaka.
  • REPORTING TO: M&E Manager
  • COORDINATION WITH: Program Team, Technical team, Branch Offices.

Purpose:

  • This position will be in charge of the field data collection, the data entry, and primary data analysis. S/he will be working in close collaboration with the M&E Manager, the other Research Officer (RO), and the Operation Software Senior Officer.

Job Responsibilities:

As Research Officer, his/her responsibility shall include but not limited to the following:

Design survey, methodologies, tools for different studies under M&E team:

  • Developing the survey tools such as questionnaires, methodology, FGDs, stakeholder mapping, different assessments etc. are in place before the study, to organise and facilitate the qualitative data collection (focus group discussions, Workshops…) and ensure the reporting of these data.
  • Assist W&L and SJP on other need-based studies and evaluations, including mapping and saturation of the services, under the supervision of the M&EM.
  • Adapt or translate the questionnaire (bangla) and all the tools to the different areas before starting the survey on the field.
  • After estimating the needs in the different areas in consultation with the M&E Manager and both PMs, conduct prospections, presurveys and surveys with clearly established internal procedures and explore different secondary sources of information about the areas.

Data collection and data analysis including GIS mapping:

  • Recruit and train the surveyors in collaboration with the operations managers and programme staff following the compliance and guidelines, as well as train the surveyor to use the collection tools;
  • Monitor the quantitative and qualitative data collection on the field, check that the questionnaires are well-filled, and ensure the surveyors have all the equipment needed.
  • Enter the data collected from the field in the software for data analysis and ensure the data integrity and data cleaning;
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement GPS data collection, analysis, and information dissemination for creating different types of GIS maps for visualisation and presentation on different platforms.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and present any other documents necessary for project development, reporting, and donor liaison purposes.
  • Ensure the documentation of the organisation’s photo database (taken in the field during data collection following the instructed research methodologies) and other documents are rightly placed.

Coordination and representation:

  • Ensure the logistics required for the study and survey purposes in coordination with the operation and programme teams and coordinate with the Finance and Admin team.
  • Communicate with different levels of stakeholders for the surveys, authorisation and collect information regarding the SJP/W&L surveys and activities.
  • Participate in meetings and reports about the survey, which could affect W&L/SJP activities.
  • Represent the organisation to all stakeholders and people s/he will meet on the field;

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Salary: Not less than BDT 25,500
