Additional Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in the development sector, NGO, or community-based organizations (CBO) working with vulnerable groups/communities at the grassroots level. Experience requirements are flexible for candidates with a background in psychology.
  • Prior experience in counseling, particularly with trauma survivors, vulnerable populations, or in crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and sensitivity to support vulnerable and at-risk groups and communities;
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention and the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly and effectively.
  • Strong communication, empathy, active listening, and problem-solving skills. Ability to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • Understanding of cultural, social, and gender-related issues and the ability to provide culturally competent care.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency: i.e. MS Office, coordination via email, etc.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and work with clients in various settings, including clinics, or community centers.
  • Adherence to professional ethical guidelines and confidentiality practices.

Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

Agrogoti Sangstha is implementing Ashshash (Phase II) with the support of Winrock International in the Satkhira district, a region particularly vulnerable to climate change, volatile politics, and religious extremism. The lack of adequate employment and livelihood opportunities leads to a high rate of migration. Additionally, these people often lack awareness about safe migration processes and necessary employment skills, making them subject to human traffickers through local brokers, relatives, or neighbours.

The Objectives of the project are-

To ensure and sustain survivor’s income, health and overall wellbeing leading to their dignified lives

To provide survivors with comprehensive, personalized and evidence based services within the project timeframe leading to their successful reintegration.

To ensure accountability and effectiveness of service providing institutions creating multi sector linkage mechanisms and effective advocacy.

A Psychosocial Counselor provides emotional and psychological support to trafficking survivors, helping them process trauma, rebuild self-esteem, and develop coping strategies. They assist in restoring a sense of safety, guiding survivors through recovery and reintegration into society, often working with other services to ensure comprehensive care.

Only short-listed candidates will be invited for the physical written exam and viva.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide psychosocial counseling services to human trafficking survivors, their families and communities, based on their need and context following ‘Do No Harm’ principles throughout the reintegration process.
  • Support in providing career counseling and the follow-up support to the survivors at the throughout the economic empowerment process.
  • Build trust with the survivor of human trafficking, their family and peers/community
  • Conduct comprehensive Mental State Examination (MSE) of clients for enrollment in psychosocial counseling support service.
  • Maintain a systemic and detailed case management process, maintaining privacy and confidentiality of the survivors.
  • Lead and conduct a comprehensive ‘Needs-Assessment’ of the survivors to identify primarily, social services (and secondarily, the economic services) as required.
  • Documentation, record keeping and maintain all kinds of forms/registers, reports, files and other documents related to his/her jurisdiction. e.g., counseling, psychosocial support, behavioral data collection etc.
  • Assist in prepare monthly, quarterly and other periodical reports as per guideline and requirement of Ashshash.
  • Maintain close liaison with other relevant stakeholders from government and non-government organizations.
  • Participate in different training, meeting, workshop, seminar, symposium organized by the project and other counterpart.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the organization.
  • The Psychosocial Counselor will obey all the duties and guidance which will come from the higher authority.

Job duration: September 2024 to October, 2026

Working Place: Kaliganj,Shyamnagar and Assasuni Upazila, Satkhira, Bangladesh

Compensation & Other Benefits

Salary: 25,000 BDT exclusive of fringe benefits
