Requirements

Education

  • Degree in psychology, gender or women’s studies, social work or other relevant/related studies, and /or professional experience in counselling and implementing activities for women and girls or proven engagement in women’s rights/groups – desirable, not essential;

  • Ability to demonstrate a clear and genuine willingness to work and learn quickly and be committed to developing professionally in the field of GBV, in particular – supporting adolescent girls protection and empowerment – essential;
  • Clear understanding of and interest in the well-being of adolescent girls;
  • Understanding of the impact and dynamics of men’s violence against women and girls, and a strong interest in working on adolescent girls’ and women protection and empowerment;
  • Personal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to keep records and write simple and basic reports of activities would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with survivors of all ages, background and diversity
  • Demonstrated commitment to girl’s empowerment and protection through current/ previous volunteer or paid work in girls’ clubs or other relevant experience is an added advantage
  • Language spoken by population in need – essential; Good working knowledge of English – preferable, not essential
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect in Centers at all times is essential.

Language Preference:

  • People who are familiar in local dialects and local language will get preference.

Responsibilities & Context

Reported To: Project Coordinator

Job Purpose of GBV Officer:

The Project Officer plays a pivotal role in providing technical support to the GBV team at the Multipurpose Community Center (MPCC), ensuring essential services for vulnerable women and girls, including GBV survivors, are delivered with dignity and in line with survivor-centered principles. This role is critical in overseeing the implementation of prevention and outreach activities such as Girl Shine, EMAP Plus, Women Rise, and Case Management programs. The Project Officer ensures the programs are conducted confidentially, effectively, and inclusively while fostering a safe and supportive environment. Through capacity building, coordination, and community engagement, the position plays a key part in creating impactful, gender-responsive initiatives that address the needs of women and girls in the host community.

Highlights of Key Responsibilities

  • Technical quality reinforce adherence to the GBV guiding principles and women-, girl- and survivor centered support throughout all activities.
  • Align with internal and inter-agency Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policies and procedures, reporting SEA through the IRC mechanisms
  • Consult and work with adolescent girls in the MPCC to identify their needs, interests and priorities, and what’s important to them, and where possible, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of adolescent girls;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of training activities for adolescent girls and women participating in MPCC services and activities;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of activities aimed at community leaders and parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) of the adolescent girls accessing the Centers and safe spaces;
  • Conduct, prepare, and help plan and organize activities with adolescent girls with an understanding of the age range of adolescent girls and varying risks adolescent girls face.
  • Provide Psychosocial First Aid and non-judgmental support and services to adolescent girls and women.
  • Assist with dignity kit distributions, appropriate messaging, and feedback from adolescent girls and women on dignity kits and other discretionary items provided.
  • Know, understand and use the formal GBV referral pathway.
  • Know, understand and be able to apply the best interest and determination for children, specifically girls.
  • Share with the adolescent girls what options for her care are available, including what services can be provided and what services cannot

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Supervise and provide ongoing support to the GBV team.
  • Identify and develop team and individual capacity-building strategies.
  • Strengthen the capacities of the team in managing and delivering activities and services.
  • Review and provide members’ feedback on activities and services, tools and resources in use in the MPCC

Implementation:

  • Work closely with GBV staff to design activities that respond to needs and priorities identified by women and adolescent girls
  • Deliver survivor-centered GBV case management in the absence of case workers, ensuring women and girls receive confidential support, and facilitate sessions for Girl Shine, EMAP Plus, and Women Rise to promote empowerment, prevention, and leadership development.
  • Prepare and maintain/update detailed work plan(s) that support and achieve activities.
  • Conduct regular field visits to support the implementation of activities with the GBV team, giving supportive feedback and guidance as part of the mentoring process.
  • Ensure the whole team is adhering the formal GBV referral pathways and are providing feedback to you on the functioning of this for action and forwarding to the project coordinator.
  • Ensure quality program implementation of prevention and community outreach activities.

Monitoring, Reporting & Administrative Support:

  • Ensure that all data collection (paper and electronic) reporting tools are used accurately on every day, and are then provided on schedule to relevant staff (i.e. MEAL Officer).
  • Monitor daily/weekly data collection to ensure that the data is managed in safe and ethical ways.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly work plans in a timely manner, and incorporate supervisor feedback as requested.
  • Compile weekly data and narrative activity report for submission.
  • Ensure that all relevant financial, supply chain, human resources and other administrative documentation is accurately completed and submitted.

Coordination & Representation:

  • Maintain effective working relationships with relevant partners including community-based protection mechanisms and government service providers to work collaboratively for a quality survivor-centered response.
  • Represent the in union based coordination forums, giving updates on GBV activities, wider guidance on survivor-centered approaches and advocating for the safety and well-being needs of women and girls in the response.

Other Duties:

  • Extent additional support to the GBV team for any emergency/urgent assignment
