Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, law or a related field (Master’s preferred); from a recognised university with minimum second Class/Division or equivalent CGPA in all academic examinations

- Experience in law, human rights, freedom of expression, or civic space.
- In-depth knowledge of the political landscape, cultural dynamics, and human rights conditions in Bangladesh and the South Asia region, with a particular focus on freedom of expression.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in related fields.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing successful communication strategies.
- Proven experience in multimedia content development: Strong skills in both written content creation (articles, blogs, etc.) and/or audio-visual content (videos, podcasts, etc.) are required.
- Experience as a journalist is a plus.
- Experience of organising media events, such as press conferences, interview programs or activities of a similar nature
- Experience of working with Bangladesh and/or international media is a plus
- Demonstrable understanding of how media coverage can be achieved, particularly in the Bangladesh, South Asia and with international media, and evidence of achieving this on behalf of an organisation
- Experience of working with youth/volunteer organization is a plus.
Responsibilities & Context
The Team and what you’ll be working on
The Senior Communication Officer at ARTICLE 19 plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization’s visibility and impact through strategic communication efforts. This position involves developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, managing media relations, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms. The officer collaborates closely with regional and legal programs to advise on media strategies at both regional and country levels, aiming to maximize ARTICLE 19’s profile and influence. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the production of press release and press statement, web content, and organizing events to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and achievements.
What you will be doing day to day
- Write, edit, and manage the production of high-quality written and multimedia/web content, articles, stories such as press releases, blog posts, newsletters, reports, social media posts, and speeches.
- In collaboration with the RD, manage A19’s website by updating content, contributing new material, and ensuring quality control through careful editing of all information. Work closely with the RD to enhance A19’s website by providing recommendations for improving both its design and editorial content.
- Organize media events, including news conferences and media seminars. Prepare press releases, media kits, and other communication materials
- Coordinate and respond to media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information.
- Oversee the organization’s social media presence, ensuring regular, engaging posts across all platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
- Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Maintain positive relationships with key external stakeholders (partners, donors, government entities, etc.)
- Oversee the creation/development of user-friendly materials such as leaflets and posters, while offering guidance and support to staff in the development of communication tools like brochures and annual reports.
- Act as the primary point of contact during times of crisis or urgent communications needs.
- Ensure all communications and content align with the company’s branding guidelines and maintain consistency in messaging throughout.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks that may be assigned by the Regional Director.
