Job Overview:

The Paramedic will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of a health camp, providing emergency medical care, first aid, and supporting healthcare professionals in the delivery of primary care services to the community. This role requires hands-on clinical skills, the ability to work in a high-paced environment, and a commitment to patient care and health education.

About HEED:

HEED Bangladesh is Non-Government and non-political National Organization working in the field of Health, Education and Economic Development for more the 50 years. The Organization is inviting applications from the suitable candidates for its Responding to Health Emergencies for Flash-Flood in the Eastern Region of Bangladesh Project. The natures of job for Paramedics (for Service Delivery). Position is contractual (03 months).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Emergency Medical Response:
  • Provide emergency medical care to patients during the health camp and first aid.
  • Assess the severity of patient conditions and provide immediate care as necessary
  • Stabilize patients until further treatment by a physician or transfer to a hospital if required.
  • Ensure all emergency equipment is operational and ready for use

Patient Assessment:

  • Conduct initial patient assessments to determine priority of care (triage) and direct patients to the appropriate healthcare professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, lab technician).
  • Take vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
  • Record and monitor patient information, including medical history, treatments, and observations.

First Aid and Treatment:

  • Administer basic medical treatments and interventions as per standard procedures and protocols
  • Assist in wound cleaning, dressing, and minor suturing, if necessary and within scope of practice.
  • Manage the application of splints, bandages, and immobilization for injuries like fractures or dislocations.
  • Health Education and Awareness:
  • Provide basic health education and first aid advice to patients and the community as needed
  • Assist in distributing health education materials related to hygiene, nutrition, or common diseases prevalent in the community.
  • Provide basic awareness in the community on Tuberculosis (TB), Malaria and HIV

Support to Healthcare Team:

  • Assist doctors in their clinical work by providing patient history, preparing patients for examination, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Prepare and organize medical equipment and supplies for examinations or procedures.
  • Transport patients safely within the camp site when required

Medical Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting the care provided, treatments given, and any follow-up care required.
  • Ensure all documentation follows legal and ethical standards of patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Stock and Equipment Management:
  • Monitor and manage medical supplies and ensure that first aid kits, medication, and other medical supplies are stocked and replenished as needed.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or shortages to the MO or camp coordinator.

Patient Transport and Referral:

  • Assist in transporting patients in need of more advanced care to local healthcare facilities or emergency services if required.
  • Coordinate with local hospitals or health facilities for the transfer of patients who need specialized care.
  • Teamwork and Communication:
  • Collaborate with fellow paramedics, doctors, and volunteers to ensure smooth operation and patient flow.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other health professionals to provide the best care and ensure patient safety.
  • Participate in team meetings and briefings to discuss patient care and any special needs of the health camp.
