Responsibilities & Context

Job Overview:

The Medical Officer for an Emergency Health Camp will be responsible for providing medical care to individuals affected by flood situations. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of health conditions in a fast-paced, often resource-limited environment. This is a crucial position in ensuring that the camp provides immediate and effective medical support to individuals in need, with a focus on triage, emergency care, and follow-up treatment.

About HEED:

HEED Bangladesh is Non-Government and non-political National Organization working in the field of Health, Education and Economic Development for more the 50 years. The Organization invites applications from the suitable candidates for its Responding to Health Emergencies for Flash-Flood in the Eastern Region of Bangladesh Project. The natures of job for Medical Officer Position is contractual (03 months).

Key Responsibilities:

Publicity and Awareness

  • Collaboration with Local Bodies: Coordinate with local organizations, UHFPO, community leaders, schools, tea garden authority and other stakeholders.
  • Registration System: Establish an easy registration process to avoid chaos on the day of the camp.

Health Camp Activities

  • Registration: On the day of the health camp, ensure a smooth registration process patients based on the urgency of their medical needs.
  • Health Screenings and Check-ups: Conduct the necessary medical screenings based on the camp’s objectives
  • Immunizations and Preventive Care: If the camp focuses on prevention, provide vaccinations, distribute mosquito nets, or give out health education material

Patient Education and Counseling

  • Health Education Sessions: Conduct brief awareness and health education sessions on relevant topics (e.g., TB, Malaria, HIV, maternal health, nutrition, mental health, non-communicable diseases, etc.).
  • Post-Camp Counseling: Offer counseling services for individuals needing follow-up or more specialized care. Refer patients to local health facilities if required.

Follow-Up and Referral System

  • Referrals: Set up a system to refer patients requiring further treatment to local healthcare facilities or hospitals.
  • Post-Camp Care: If possible, follow up with individuals who may need continued treatment or medication. This may involve collaborating with local health centers or clinics to ensure continuity of care.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of the camp activities, number of patients attended, diagnoses made, treatments provided, and any follow-up needed.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Feedback Collection: After the camp, collect feedback from the participants and healthcare staff to assess what went well and what could be improved for future camps.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze the medical data gathered from the camp to identify patterns in health issues prevalent in the community. This can inform future public health initiatives.
  • Final Report: Prepare a comprehensive report that includes an evaluation of the camp’s effectiveness, an account of the services provided, number of patients treated, and recommendations for improvement.

Others Responsibility

  • Provide technical support to monitor and facilitate the implementation of the Health Emergency program, by supporting supervision, facilitating periodic monitoring activities and technical missions, collecting and analyzing data etc.
  • Preparing documents/ reports for various purposes
  • Provide technical support for the development and implementation of the Health Emergencies.
  • Ability to work independently and a team.
  • Commendable Knowledge in Health and Social structures of Bangladesh.
  • Strong Administrative, managerial and motivational skill.
