The Aquaya Institute (‘Aquaya’) is a nonprofit research and consulting organization dedicated to advancing global health through universal access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). We deliver critical insights, data, and tools to support informed policy, program, and financing decisions. This knowledge helps to secure safe water and sanitation for vulnerable populations, improving human health and well-being.
Aquaya’s portfolio spans public health, economics, technology development, and social entrepreneurship in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We have published or contributed to over 40 peer-reviewed research articles and produced numerous other reports and publications.
Aquaya maintains offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana. Staff members are also in the US, France, Uganda, and Ethiopia. Many of our projects are carried out in collaboration with academic research groups and expert consultants.
About the Research Associate Contractor
We are recruiting a Research Associate Contractor who could support data analysis and deliverables to relevant audiences, such as reports, briefs, presentations, etc., depending on skill and experience.
- Coordinate fieldwork for data collection and dissemination activities
- Recruit data collection enumerators, as discussed with the Senior Research Manager
- Procure field supplies and arrange logistics (e.g., car rental, field itinerary, enumerator contracts)
- Support data collection training for enumerators.
- Conduct community entry meetings and mobilize community leaders and guides for meetings and data collection activities as needed.
- Provide daily support to data collection teams and troubleshoot issues in the field.
- Administer effective QAQC methods to ensure data quality.
- Conduct qualitative research
- Conduct in-depth key-informant interviews and focus-group discussions
- Clean and manage qualitative data. Record, transcribe, and summarize qualitative interviews and focus group discussions
- Assist with maintaining local partnerships and relationships
- Interface with project partners, including NGOs and government officials
- Produce verbal and/or written activity updates for program partners and for broader dissemination.
- Assist with preparing presentations and posters.
- Promote Aquaya and URBAN WASH when interacting with new connections or connections that are unaware of Aquaya and URBAN WASH’s work.
- Maintain clear communication with the Senior Research Manager and relevant project teams
- Ability to travel domestically up to 30%.
- Conduct other duties and tasks as assigned.
URBAN WASH
Urban Resilience by Building partnerships and Applying New evidence in WASH (URBAN WASH) will generate evidence for more impactful, sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient WASH and water resource management (WRM) policy and programming in urban and peri-urban areas. URBAN WASH will also support high-impact WASH and WRM interventions through collaboration with researchers, the private sector, civil society groups, government bodies, and multilateral institutions.
The program will conduct research on three primary topics:
- Partner and engage strategically for research, peer learning, and uptake of evidence.
- Generate high-quality evidence focusing on the enabling environment for water and sanitation policies and regulations, small and informal service providers, and source water protection and diversification for resilient urban water supplies.
- Provide technical assistance to USAID Missions on WASH and WRM research, assessments, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
