Responsibilities & Context

Project Officer- Soil Testing will have the overall implementation responsibility of soil testing intervention of TNF funded project on Bhasan Char (BC). He will ensure technical and managerial supervision and support to contribute to increase productivity, and implement project activities in the field according to plan & proposal. This position will support Program Manager in project reviews, activity planning, staff supervision, budgeting and coordination with government and other agencies to ensure communities receive appropriate level of services

Provide technical support to implement the plan

Perform comprehensive soil tests to determine soil composition, pH levels, nutrient content, contamination, and suitability for various uses

Regularly monitor soil conditions to detect changes over time and ensure they remain conducive to agricultural activities

Provide assessments on soil fertility to support agricultural initiatives aimed at improving food security for the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National (FDMN)

Collaborate with other humanitarian agencies, government bodies, and NGOs to ensure a coordinated approach to soil management and environmental sustainability

Advise on the use of fertilizers, compost, and other soil amendments to enhance productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability

Educate the FDMN communities on sustainable farming practices that maintain or improve soil health

Analyze soil properties to determine the Good Agricultural Practices

Test for and identify potentially hazardous contaminants in the soil that could pose health risks to the agricultural activities of the FDMN communities

Implement strategies to prevent soil erosion, which can lead to environmental degradation and pose risks to GAP

Help management creating easy-to-understand educational materials on soil conservation and management practices

Keep detailed records of all soil tests and analyses conducted, including data on soil o   quality trends over time

Prepare regular reports summarizing findings and providing recommendations for actions to be taken by the humanitarian organization and other stakeholders

Attend and contribute to inter-agency meetings and forums on environmental and agricultural issues

Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment

Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action

Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
