Responsibilities & Context
ESDO was established in 1988 with the aim of supporting poor and marginalized people affected by the devastating flood and gradually moving towards achieving a broader vision of achieving sustainable, secured, and resilient livelihoods for these poor and marginalized people through improving their overall sustainable development. For the last more than three and a half decades of its development journey, ESDO has set an outstanding example of a sustainable development model for the underprivileged communities of Bangladesh. ESDO has been working in the country’s primarily unserved and underserved locations, nurturing a community-focused participatory approach and people’s ownership. Consequently, the ESDO’s working area has already established an enabling environment. We have made notable achievements in livelihood improvement, food security and nutrition, education, women’s empowerment, health, the promotion of children’s rights, adolescent and youth engagement, and the rights of ethnic minorities. During this long span, we have adapted to the changing situation and provided the most time-bound effective services, especially to the poor and disadvantaged people. Considering the government’s development policies, we are currently implementing a considerable number of projects and programs, including a microfinance program, through a community-focused and people-centered approach to accomplish the government’s development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN as a whole. One of the most dynamic organizations, ESDO, is expanding its development interventions across 408 upazilas under 53 districts of Bangladesh, thereby reaching over 15 million impoverished and vulnerable individuals.The WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring WASH infrastructure and interventions under the ICRDCV Project. The role aims to enhance community resilience to disasters and climate vulnerabilities by ensuring access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene facilities through sustainable and inclusive approaches. As partnership with Muslim Aid Bangladesh, ESDO will implement the “Inclusive Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Vulnerabilities (ICRDCV)” Project in Sathkhira District. ESDO is inviting applications from interested qualified candidates for the position.
Job Responsibilities:
- A WASH Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks (Including but not limited to):
- Coordinate and ensure implementation with community-level group on WASH and DRR infrastructure intervention including designing, drawing, BoQand preparing site lists with community participation.
- Assist in developing construction work plans with community groups that adhere to project timelines and Inclusive Community Risk Reduction Action Plan (ICRRAP) guidelines.
- Resilient WASH and other facilities at school/shelter (Children, gender and PWD friendly school/shelter preparation, 10 shelters, Provision of safe drinking water, WASH facilities, lactation and maternity facilities, gender- and disability-sensitive sanitation, disability accessibility, solar energy, etc)
- Conduct the activities on Safe drinking water facilities, Rain water harvesting, pond sand filter etc.
- Increased access to safe water and resilient sanitation facilities in 27 communities
- Supervise daily construction work, monitor progress, and provide suggestions to workers in consultation with community while ensuring quality control of materials and overall work.
- Prepare weekly construction monitoring reports and assist in their compilation.
- Communicate daily with workers and vendors based on field findings with community
- Develop and and ensure construction oversight mechanism with participation of DPHE, LGED , Other government stakeholders and community people.
- Assist in making purchase requirements to ensure service availability and maintain various registers daily to produce monthly quantitative reports of activity.
- Recommend new methods and approaches to improve activity quality.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions in WASH and related fields to expand knowledge and share it with colleagues and beneficiaries.
- Any other assignments of organizational management
