The SHIKHA project under Social Compolinace Programme aims to strengthen prevention and response to all forms of gender based violence (GBV) at the public and workplaces in Bangladesh through legislative change and effective enforcement, strengthening systems and addressing harmful social norms and gender stereotypes. The project will work in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Barisal, Narayanganj and Rajshahi districts in 250 workplaces, 270 educational institutions, public places, digital platforms and with the Government of Bangladesh.

Field Communicator, Road Safety is a Project based position for SHIKHA Project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrange project kick-off event at a renowned place of selected district/ Upazilas/ places.Conduct/ facilitate workshop for developing action plan by Transport Sector Association on prevention of Sextual Harassment (SH) and Gender Based Violance (GBV) in public transport.
  • Organize training with BRTA, City Authorities, Police Hotlines and Law Enforcement Agencies to develop and implement localized plans to prevent and respond to GBV and SH in public transports.
  • Develop action plan and follow up by Transport Sector Association and District Road Safety Committee.
  • Conduct follow up meetings with Transport Sector Associations and District Road Safety Committees.
  • Arrange training on SH (physical, verbal, psychological and cyber) and violence at public spaces, workplaces and digital platforms.Organize training for drivers and helpers on implementing functional grievance and reporting mechanisms on SH and GBV.
  • Conduct awareness campaign for public transport users on Gender Based Violence (GBV), and Sexual harassment.
  • Conduct campaign in different locations especially places such as terminals, growth centers and stoppages where a large number of public transport users gather.
  • Assist in developing guidelines to stop GBV and SH in public transport (buses), and the installation and use of CCTV and panic buttons in public transports.
  • Prepare monthly MIS and other necessary reports.
  • Liaison with officials at district/ upazilla level; i.e, DC, UNO, Upazila Education Officer, Upazila Maddhomik Education Officer, Local influential Community leader, UP Chairman,  school management committee, teachers, leaders of local NGO/CBOs.

    Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
