Education
- Essential – Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology / Counseling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Clinical Social Work / Social Science
- Desirable – A master’s degree in any one of the above fields
Experience
- Essential – 1 year work experience in providing counseling services in mental health setting.
- Desirable – 1 year experience with NGO.
- Desirable – 1 years MSF work experience
Language
- Essental – Bengali and Chittagonian dialect
- Desirable – English language.
Knowledge
- Desirable – Computer Literacy (Ms word, excel/ powerpoint).
Responsibilities & Context
- Identify the psychosocial, socioeconomic, and administrative needs of patients.
- Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out individual or group counselling and basic psychoeducational sessions to patients and their families (when needed) to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
- Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, to propose the best support available.
- Participate in the creation of any material needed for counselling activities and look after it,
- Maintain files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss challenging cases with other counsellors, preserving confidentiality.
- Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
- Take an active part in training, supervisions/interventions, and support the Activity Manager when necessary in sensitising MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
- Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with a supervisor.
Context Specific Accountabilities
General Responsabilitiés
- To adhere to all mental health ethical standards including: do no harm, serving the best interest of the beneficiary, confidentiality, informed consent and respect for beneficiarie’s choices.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, case discussions, clinical supervision and training.
- To manage time in a manner that facilitates timely follow-up with beneficiaries.
- To collect and maintain data on all psychosocial and counselling activities on a weekly/monthly basis and produce timely reports to the supervisor.
- To ensure confidentiality of all psychosocial, counselling and medical cases/records.
- To collaborate with the medical team and partners to safeguard the beneficiary (safety, choices, confidentiality) and enhance outcomes.
- To develop and prepare mental health and psychosocial education messages/topics to be used in psychosocial activities according to the needs of the beneficiaries
Psychosocial Activities
- To provide information on relevant mental health issues (sensitisation) and how to cope with and manage possible mental health distress (psycho-education).
- Identify beneficiaries who need Psychological First Aid (PFA) and link patients who need medical or mental health assistance to appropriate services.
- To organise and provide group activities (education groups, discussion groups, stimulation activities) in the community, camp or clinic according to the need of beneficiaries.
- To visit families in their home/tent/shelter if required, to facilitate defaulters’ tracing, offer psycho-education, or provide psychiatric support to patients and caregivers.
Therapeutic Activities
- To assess the patient’s mental health and psychosocial needs and collaboratively develop a treatment plan with the patient.
- To provide therapeutic individual and group counselling that will reduce symptoms, enhance adaptive coping strategies, and improve patient’s functioning.
- To participate in individual and group supervision and seek assistance from the MH Supervisor/Psychologist Supervisor/MHAM when cases require more advanced psychological assessment and interventions.
- To assess patients for suicide risk or harm to others and provide an appropriate safety plan and interventions to mitigate that risk and optimise safety.
- To work with the doctor to assess and support patients and their caregivers with severe mental and neurological conditions.
- To monitor progress on treatment goals while maintaining accurate and timely documentation in Client Files
Programmatic Activities:
- To serve as a focal point for various specialised interdepartmental collaborations (i.e. SGBV, IPDs, MH Outreach ) as a way to improve the interdisciplinary approach to care.
- To take leadership in the provision of group programming, including utilising group content to inform future group programming.
- To support training initiatives across departments and programs to raise awareness and education about MH needs and collaborate across departments.
- To serve as mentor and model for newly joined lay counsellor team members, supporting their training, offering coaching and mentorship.
Compensation & Other Benefits
Contract and Benefit
Permanent contract. Salary according to level 05 (Five) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 56,000.00 Gross). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.
Others
There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
