Job Context

• Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) started its journey in 1988 with a noble vision to stand in solidarity with the poor and marginalized. Being a peoples’ centered organization, ESDO envisioned for a society which will be free from inequality and injustice, a society where no child will cry from hunger and no life will be ruined by poverty. Near about three decades of relentless efforts to make this happen, ESDO has embraced new grounds and opened up new horizons to help the disadvantaged and vulnerable people to bring meaningful and lasting changes in their lives. During this long span, ESDO has adapted with the changing situation and provided the most time-bound services especially for the poor and disadvantaged. A community focused and people centered approach has been adapted by ESDO while consideration was given to the national policy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its guiding principle. ESDO is one of the most dynamic organizations expanding its development interventions across 337 upazilas under 53 districts of Bangladesh covering over 12 million poor and vulnerable people.

• The Community Development Officer (CDO) will play a vital role in supporting Climate resilience livelihood & sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities under Action to Climate Change for Ensuring Sustainable Solutions (ACCESS) Project. The incumbent will focus on capacity building, resource management, and technical assistance to promote climate-resilient farming techniques and improve food security and income generation for target beneficiaries. Based at the District Office, the Community Development Officer (CDO) will dedicate approximately 100% of their time to field activities.

ESDO is inviting applications from interested qualified candidates for the following position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement.
  • Mobilize and engage community members to participate in project activities. Conduct meetings, awareness campaigns, and focus group discussions to build trust and understanding. Identify local challenges and propose solutions in collaboration with community stakeholders.
  • Implementation of DRR & CCA, Agricultural Interventions/Activities
  • Assist in planning and executing field-level activities such as training sessions, demonstrate, and pilot projects.
  • Facilitate the of climate-smart and Negotiable, technologies. Support the distribution of inputs, tools, and resources to beneficiaries.
  • Reporting.
  • Collect data, document observations, and report field-level outcomes to the project team.
  • Highlight success stories, lessons learned, and areas for improvement.
  • Coordination and Collaboration.
  • Work closely with other project staff to ensure integrated and coherent implementation. Coordinate with local authorities, partner organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance project impact.
  • Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution.
  • Address challenges and resolve conflicts that may arise during project implementation. Ensure that project activities are inclusive and sensitive to community dynamics.
  • Effective networking with the different service providers & facilitates the identification of the local resources and their utilization.
  • Identify and establish networks with Union Parishad-level service providers, fostering effective linkages between the community and service providers.
  • Develop strong liaisons with relevant institutions, organizations, market actors, or business entities to ensure accessible and efficient service delivery for the community.
  • Facilitate the identification of local resources and support the community in accessing these resources and services effectively.
  • Safeguarding
  • Comply with safeguarding policy in project activities.
  • Data collection & reporting in all requirements.
  • Conduct project-mandated surveys in accordance with requirements.
  • Collect field-level data and M&E information, ensuring adherence to specified timelines.
  • Leverage ICT-based software to process data efficiently using smartphones.
  • Identify community challenges and key learnings, share insights with the team for resolution, and effectively disseminate solutions back to the community.
  • Compile monthly progress reports and complete all project-related documentation within the designated timeframe.
  • Undertake additional project-related responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Implement the program interventions in selected assigned areas

  • Promote private sector engagement in the development and dissemination of climate-smart agricultural products.
  • Assist in selecting training participants from the community and support the organization of Union Parishad (UP)/village-level training sessions and workshops.
  • Organize and facilitate field-level learning sessions effectively.
  • Actively participate in trainings and workshops as per nomination.
  • Support the selection of appropriate activities and maintain close follow-up to ensure their timely and proper implementation.
  • Assist in selecting Community Volunteers, monitor their activities, and provide supervision.
  • Ensure the proper utilization and maintenance of training materials and other resources supplied by the organization.
