Requirements

Education

Diploma in Medical Technology, Medical Assistance or an equivalent healthcare-related field from a recognized institution with a valid BMDC registration.

Experience: Minimum of 03 years in a similar role, preferably in emergency or humanitarian settings.

Responsibilities & Context

PHD is a not-for-profit organization, working in Bangladesh for more than 3 decades towards improving the life of the people, particularly of marginalized and the less privileged. PHD under the partnership of Save the Children, funded by ECHO is going to start the project activities e.g., outdoor service and mobilization at primary health care center in camp 21, Cox’s Bazar district.

The Medical Assistant will support the clinical team, offering basic clinical care and assisting licensed medical professionals in delivering quality health services. This role ensures smooth patient flow, accurate medical record management and effective outpatient care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Quality Clinical Services :

  • Conduct initial patient assessments, including taking vital signs, obtaining medical histories and identifying immediate needs.
  • Provide basic clinical care and first aid under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers.
  • Assist in clinical procedures and treatments as directed by doctors and nurses.
  • Administer medications as per prescriptions and assist in follow-up care instructions.

2. Outpatient Care Coordination:

  • Manage patient flow, ensuring efficient triage and reduced waiting times.
  • Support doctors and nurses during consultations, treatments and emergencies.
  • Assist in managing Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) and other specialized outpatient services.

3. Medical Records and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including registration, clinical notes and follow-up data.
  • Support the data entry process for health information systems (HIS) and ensure the timely submission of reports.
  • Monitor and report daily patient statistics to the Clinical Coordinator.

4. Infection Control and Safety:

  • Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) measures are followed during patient care and facility operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinical area and equipment.

5. Community and Patient Education:

  • Provide patients and caregivers with health education, including medication use, preventive care and follow-up guidance.
  • Participate in health awareness sessions within the health post and surrounding community.

6. Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with clinical and outreach teams to align service delivery with community needs.
  • Liaise with referral facilities for follow-up on referred patients, ensuring continuity of care.

7. Other responsibilities

  • Perform any other relevant tasks assigned within the reasonable scope of this job description by the line manager.
  • Ready to work to respond to any natural disaster or emergency anywhere in Bangladesh.
