Proven experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably in a fleet management environment.
Strong understanding of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical components, and braking systems.
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and develop effective repair solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with drivers, workshop personnel, and management.
Sound knowledge in BRTA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities & Context

REPORTING

The incumbent will report to the Director, Administration

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on company vehicles according to manufacturer guidelines and established schedules.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on vehicles.
Perform minor repairs and adjustments, including oil changes, brake replacements, tire rotations, and fluid level checks.
Coordinate major repairs with external workshops, ensuring quality and timely completion.
Fleet Management:
Allocation of transports – indoor/outdoor.
Maintain detailed records of vehicle service history, including repair details, parts used, and maintenance costs.
Monitor fuel consumption and identify areas for improvement.
Track vehicle registration, insurance, and fitness certificates to ensure compliance.
Analyze fleet data to identify trends (fuel) and make recommendations for vehicle acquisition or replacement strategies.
Regular Renewal of documentation/license/registration on time.
Checking bill voucher of transports/drivers/helpers.
Leave management.
Hire transport on need basis.
Evaluation of drivers performance and transport utilization.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure all vehicles are in safe operating condition and comply with road safety regulations.
Conduct pre-trip inspections and identify potential safety hazards.
Educate drivers on proper vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices.
Budget Management:
Prepare and manage maintenance budgets for the vehicle fleet.
Negotiate repair costs (work request cases) with external service providers.
Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Technical Expertise:
Stay updated on the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques.
Understand and interpret vehicle schematics and technical manuals.
Evaluate new vehicle models and recommend potential purchases based on performance and operational needs.
