Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree in the same field will be preferred.
Experience
At least 5 years
The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): NGO, Development Agency
Additional Requirements
5 years of relevant occupational experience.
Experience working with the international cooperation/development sector will be an asset.
Working experience with local government institutions (municipalities) will be an asset.
Working experience with ecologically friendly, sustainable building materials is an asset
Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player
Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent writing and editing skills; good interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.
Fluent in English and Bangla (oral and written)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, hands-on experience with digital data systems, and familiarity with various communication tools and modern IT systems
Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work effectively in an intercultural environment.
Responsibilities & Context
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
GIZ in Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of “Advisor – Construction and Infrastructure” from candidates for ‘Innovations for Climate-smart Urban Development (INCLUDE)’ project.
Contract Duration: Until December 2027
A. Responsibilities
The position holder is responsible for:
Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.
Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solutions.
B.The position holder is responsible for the following tasks
Tasks
Advise in the implementation of infrastructure/construction related small-scale implementation measures of the project ‘Innovations for Climate-smart Urban Development (INCLUDE)’
Oversee/monitor infrastructure/construction related small-scale implementation measures, implemented in the project partner municipalities, in accordance with the project requirements.
Document the progress and communicate with GIZ Head Quarters on the progress of the construction related small-scale measures in accordance with GIZ requirements.
Prepare and edit Terms of Reference (ToR), cost calculations, Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and other contract-related documents required for tendering, with consulting of relevant staff within the project.
Oversee different consulting firms and other contract modalities on their implementation
Communicate with other GIZ projects working in same or similar contexts, ensuring a joint approach.
Participate in team processes, such as regular team meetings and overarching tasks within the team.
Deliver monitoring-related documents to the project’s monitoring and reporting focal person.
Support the line management in overarching topics as of demand.
Undertake any other reasonable task assigned by the supervisor.
