Requirements

Education

  • A master’s degree in law (LLB/LLM) or specialization in human rights, refugee law, or international law is preferred.
  • L.L-B(Hons) Degree in Law and Bar Council Certificate is Mandatory L.L-M(masters) preferred.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years

Additional Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in legal practice (Civil and Criminal) with a focus on human rights, refugee law, or legal aid. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly refugees, is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience as an advocate in community level
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of local law and procedures
  • Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation
  • Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Bengali. Knowledge of Chittagonian dialects is an advantage.

Responsibilities & Context

Job Purpose of Advocate:

The Panel Lawyer will be responsible for providing legal support, advice, and representation to the host community in Cox’s Bazar. The role involves working closely with humanitarian organizations, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure that the rights of vulnerable populations are protected and that they have access to justice.

Ensure proper dealing of cases following the existing laws and humanitarian manners for achieving the proper judgement in favor of victims. Developing professional relationship with the PP, APP and Judges for operating the cases smoothly. Representation in the activities of District Bar Association and demonstrate the positive reflections of legal interventions of the organization. Developing strong bonding with the district legal aid and other actors for focusing the performance of the organization in the field of legal interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advocate will be assigned by the Project Coordinator of Pulse Bangladesh society for every specific case. Note that the PC will take the decision by sharing with the management of organization.
  • Advocate will fix the date and time for filing case in the court by analyzing the all-relevant documents of survivor and he must maintain the norms and values of humanitarian principles.
  • He/she will preserve all documents related to the case and will follow the conditions of agreement with him. And 01 set photocopy of all documents must be shared with Pulse BD society.
  • Advocate will go to the other (Courts, Tribunal, Honorable High Court Division of Supreme Court of Bangladesh.) outside of Cox’s Bazar (Chittagong / Dhaka or any other areas) in need for ensuring the support of survivors.
  • If the case is related to compoundable offence or family matters, then on the basis of opinion of survivor panel lawyer can take initiatives to dispose the matter by sharing with the Pulse BD society
  • He/she will share the progress of the case or update information of case with the concern PC of Pulse Bangladesh society and will maintain the privacy of every individual case.
  • Advocate will ensure the attendance of survivor in the court in every month and will share the dates of cases with PC in the first week of every month.
  • He/she never take any remuneration or additional money from survivor or family members of survivor for the case purpose.
  • Advocate will conduct follow up of the previous cases and if need then they will provide necessary support to the survivor by sharing with the case with Pulse Bangladesh society.
  • Advocate will preserve all relevant documents of the cases and she/he will share the documents with Pulse BD whenever it is required.
  • In terms of payment of panel lawyers, Pulse BD will follow the agreement with the panel lawyers.
  • Advocate will deal in the field of filing case, hearing, bail, custody, attendance ,protest against bail ,time petition ,issuing warrant against accused person ,petition for DNA test (if need), oppose investigation report ,ensure witness of cases , treat for FIR, medical report and collection of necessary documents.
