Requirements

Education

• Bachelor/Honors

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Bengali linguistics, language studies, or a related field. Expertise in linguistic theory and Bengali language structure is essential.

Additional Requirements

• Core Linguistic Knowledge: Strong foundation in areas such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and sociolinguistics, specifically within the Bengali language.
• Bengali Language Proficiency: Native or near-native proficiency in Bengali, with strong skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Ability to analyze and express intricate language characteristics accurately.
• Cultural and Sociolinguistic Insight: Familiarity with Bengali dialects, language variations, and cultural language use is highly valued.
• Technical Skills (Optional):  – Experience with Praat for audio analysis and annotation is a plus.  – Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., Python) is advantageous but not required.
• Communication Skills: Proficiency in English or Chinese is preferred for team communication.
• Personal Qualities: Strong sense of responsibility, commitment to quality, and a collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities & Context

About the Role: Swift Tech is searching for a Bengali Linguist to join our team and support the development of our AI assistant. This role centers on applying Bengali linguistic expertise to improve our AI’s language understanding, making it more intuitive and responsive for Bengali-speaking users. Your contributions will be integral to developing linguistic rules, annotating data, and enriching the AI’s natural language comprehension.

Key Responsibilities:

• Linguistic Rule Development: Develop and refine linguistic rules based on Bengali language structures, incorporating insights from phonology, syntax, and semantics.
• Language Data Annotation: Collect, annotate, and organize Bengali language data to support AI model training.
• Quality Standards and Data Integrity: Maintain high standards in data quality, focusing on linguistic accuracy, dialectal variation, and context.
• AI Linguistics Training and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our AI assistant aligns with Bengali linguistic nuances, including sociolinguistic and pragmatic considerations.
• General Support: Assist with related tasks as needed to ensure the AI assistant’s language processing is optimized for Bengali speakers.
