Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

A reputed buying house is expanding its team and seeking a skilled Assistant Merchandiser to support product development and sourcing. This role involves collaborating with buyers and designers, managing sample development, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring cost-effective production while maintaining quality and compliance standards. Key Responsibilities:

Product Development

• Work closely with buyers and designers to develop new product collections.
• Source and identify suitable materials, trims, and suppliers based on design requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors to develop samples, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and timeline expectations.

Sampling & Product Approval

• Manage the end-to-end sample development process from proto to production.
• Evaluate samples for fit, fabric, color, and construction, and provide feedback to suppliers.
• Work closely with quality and technical teams to ensure product specifications are met.

Supplier & Factory Coordination

• Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and factories.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, and order quantities with suppliers.
• Ensure factories adhere to ethical and sustainable sourcing practices.

Costing & Pricing Negotiation

• Analyze product costs, material sourcing, and production expenses to maintain budget control.
• Work with suppliers to optimize cost efficiency while maintaining product quality.
• Support buyers in price negotiations and finalizing cost sheets.

Trend & Market Research

• Research fashion trends, materials, and market demands to develop competitive products.
• Conduct competitor analysis to understand pricing, quality, and innovation in the market.
• Provide insights on new product opportunities and improvements.

Production & Order Management

• Ensure smooth transition from development to bulk production.
• Track product development timelines and manage deadlines for approvals.
• Address production challenges and suggest solutions to avoid delays.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure all developed products meet compliance, sustainability, and quality standards.
• Work with internal teams for lab testing, certification, and regulatory approvals.
• Follow up on corrective actions for quality issues.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of product specs, materials, costs, and approvals.
• Prepare reports and updates for the merchandising and buying teams.
• Assist in preparing presentations and documentation for product launches.
