Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS)
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Physiology
  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Physiology
  • Must have a valid BMDC registration number.
  • At least 1-2 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Typically 2-3 years of teaching experience as a Lecturer in Physiology in a recognized medical college.

Experience

    • 3 to 5 years

Responsibilities & Context

1. Teaching & Learning

  • Theory Classes: Deliver formal lectures to MBBS and BDS students on all major systems of medical physiology, including General Physiology, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Neurophysiology, Renal, Endocrine, Gastrointestinal, Reproductive, Exercise & Environmental Physiology, and Applied/Clinical Physiology.
  • Small Group Teaching: Conduct tutorials, seminars, problem-based learning (PBL), case-based discussions, and integrated teaching sessions (vertical/horizontal integration with clinical departments).
  • Practical Classes: Supervise and actively participate in practical sessions including:
    • Hematology (Hb estimation, TC/DC, ESR, PCV, bleeding/clotting time, blood grouping).
    • Clinical physiology (recording of blood pressure, ECG, body temperature, pulmonary function tests).
    • Interpretation of physiological data and graphs.
  • Postgraduate Education (if applicable): Assist in teaching MD (Physiology) students and guide their research work/dissertation under supervision of senior faculty.

2. Student Assessment & Examination

  • Prepare question papers for internal assessments (tutorial exams, term finals, card finals).
  • Invigilate examinations and maintain academic integrity.
  • Evaluate answer scripts, practical notebooks, and OSCE/OSPE stations.
  • Conduct viva voce (oral examinations) and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Serve as an internal or external examiner for university MBSTU/BSMMU professional examinations (as per eligibility).
  • Identify struggling students and provide remedial teaching and academic counseling.

3. Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in specialized areas of Physiology.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed national and international journals (e.g., Bangladesh Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology).
  • Present papers/poster at conferences (e.g., Bangladesh Physiological Society, national CMEs).
  • Organize and participate in departmental journal clubs, research methodology workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) programs.
  • Assist senior faculty in preparing research proposals and obtaining ethical clearance.

4. Administrative & Mentorship Duties

  • Faculty Development: Mentor and supervise Lecturers and Demonstrators in teaching techniques, lesson planning, and practical demonstration skills.
  • Department Management: Assist HOD and Associate Professor in maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing reagents, managing stock registers, and ensuring safety protocols.
  • Committee Service: Serve on institutional committees (e.g., examination committee, curriculum committee, research cell) as assigned.
  • Accreditation Support: Prepare documents, reports, and teaching materials for BMDC inspection and accreditation processes.
  • Hospital Activities: Participate in hospital management activities and coordinate with clinical departments for integrated teaching.
