Requirements

Education

Graduate degree, preferably in law, journalism, development studies or any other relevant discipline from a recognised university with minimum second Class/Division or equivalent CGPA in all academic examinations

Experience

  • At least 2 years

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of human rights trends, particularly on freedom of expression and information in Bangladesh and South Asia region is expected
  • Knowledge of international human rights law and awareness of mechanisms for the protection of human rights at international, regional and national level is a plus
  • A minimum of two years of full-time professional experience is required
  • Additionally, having experience working with development organizations, networks, and volunteer organizations is highly desirable
  • Candidates with experience in research and data management will be given preference
  • Demonstrable experience of work in the field of human rights, with experience of freedom of expression and information issues a plus
  • Having demonstrable familiarity with project implementation, development and management will be considered an advantage
  • Experience of producing reports/publication/broadcast materials
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Written and spoken fluency in Bangla and English
  • Ability to work effectively, often under pressure, to tight and demanding deadlines
  • Good writing skills, including the ability to write materials suitable for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office, social media platforms and websites

Responsibilities & Context

The Team and what you’ll be working on

Under the supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, Bangladesh Assistant Programme Officer will support the implementation, coordination, and management of ARTICLE 19’s programme works in Bangladesh and the South Asia region. This includes assisting in project planning, coordination, and execution, as well as maintaining regular communication with partners and stakeholders. The role also involves providing administrative and financial support, contributing to fundraising efforts, and helping with the development of reports and publications. Additionally, the Assistant Programme Officer will support the monitoring and evaluation of project activities to ensure they align ARTICLE 19’s strategic goals.

What you will be doing day to day

  • Assist in coordinating and implementing project activities and deliverables to ensure that the expected results and objectives are achieved
  • Assist in effectively organizing workshops, trainings, meetings, dialogues, and seminars for ongoing ARTICLE 19 Bangladesh and South Asia (BSA) projects, both at the national and regional levels
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for training sessions, workshops, meetings, dialogues, and seminars. This involves collecting and analyzing relevant data, documenting key discussions and outcomes, and ensuring that all information is accurately and clearly presented
  • Verify and validate incidents involving journalists, communicators, and human rights defenders
  • Develop brief case studies on incidents involving journalists, communicators, and human rights defenders, with a particular focus on feminist issues
  • Assist in entering and organizing data within the monitoring tool system, ensuring accuracy and completeness. This includes regularly updating the system with new information, verifying data integrity, and generating reports
  • Provide assistance in gathering applications from journalists, communicators, and human rights defenders for support. Additionally, assist in preparing and processing the necessary support files, ensuring that all documentation is thorough and accurate
  • Maintain regular communication with partners, consultants, resource persons, vendors, service providers and other stakeholders
  • Actively support the expansion of ARTICLE 19’s contacts list and database by identifying and engaging with new potential partners, stakeholders, and collaborators
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the role as may reasonably be assigned by the Line Manager
