  • At least 7-10 years of experience in horticulture or agricultural project management, with a strong focus on sustainable practices, preferably in a development or humanitarian setting.
  • Academic qualifications and experience may be relaxed for experienced candidates.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly practices, soil fertility improvement, and waste management.
  • Experience working with refugee populations or in remote, challenging environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English and Bengali; knowledge of Rohingya or Chittagonian dialects is an asset.
  • Must have Computer knowledge (MS Word, excel, PowerPoint, email, internet etc.)
  • Strong in English and capable of writing quality reports in English is necessary.
  • Strong ability in problem-solving and decision-making.

Responsibilities & Context

Community Development Centre (CODEC) is going to implement a project in Bhasanchar involving vermicompost and vegetable production.

The vermicompost initiative will produce eco-friendly fertilizer, create jobs, and enhance environmental sustainability through waste reduction and soil improvement.

The vegetable production component, focused on pumpkin cultivation, aims to boost food security and nutrition while linking refugee farmers to E-voucher shops and fresh food markets. Refugees will receive training, cash grants, and technical support.

The project initially will run for 2.5 months, with coordination efforts involving camp administration and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Head/ Manager / CODEC Focal Point in implementing horticultural activities, with a specific focus on vegetable production (focusing on pumpkin cultivation), vermi-composting, and sustainable waste management practices.
  • Conduct needs assessments to understand specific horticultural requirements, challenges, and potential for upcycling initiatives faced by the Rohingya community in Bhasan Char.
  • Develop and promote sustainable agricultural practices that enhance soil fertility through the use of vermicompost and improve crop yields using eco-friendly methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to project staff, community members, and refugee volunteers on best practices for vegetable cultivation, vermicomposting, and solid waste management.
  • Coordinate with local farmers and suppliers to strengthen collaboration, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials and inputs needed for horticultural and composting activities.
  • Support the development of detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, with a strong focus on horticultural and waste management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Donor standards and guidelines, particularly in the areas of sustainable agriculture, food security, and environmental management.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports on horticultural, vermicomposting, and upcycling activities, contributing to the overall project reporting.
  • Should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)’s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.
  • Ensure the safety of team members (with respect to Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse – PSEA) from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals of safeguarding implementation.
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
