- Must be updated on the latest Customs and International Trade Laws is essential to be proficient in this position.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Knowledge about handling Port and Customs Operations effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills, smart, and well-conversed.
- Ability to manage office operations efficiently and independently
Responsibilities & Context
- Supervise activities across all sections of the Commercial department, including Export, Import, Bank, and Audit.
- Liaise regularly with the Marketing & Merchandising and Accounts & Finance departments for shipment scheduling and fund management.
- Oversee all commercial department activities, coordinating with other departments, government offices, local buyer liaison offices, audit firms, and banks.
- Prepare invoices, and packing lists, and process EXP forms for export consignments.
- Manage the collection of Master L/Cs and the opening of Back-to-Back L/Cs for raw material procurement.
- Correspond with local buying houses and foreign buyers regarding export documents via email & verbally.
- Report to top management and participate in the Business Review Meetings to assist in decision-making.
- Ensure timely submission of export documents to local buying houses or buyer representatives to obtain Inspection Certificates.
- Submit export documents to banks for negotiation with buyers’ banks and follow up on payment realizations.
- Organize import documents to ensure timely release of import consignments.
- Manage all commercial activities, including PI issuance, L/C opening and amendments, shipment, negotiation, payment realization, and release through international communication.
- Oversee and manage LC-related tasks, ensuring proper HS codes for timely customs clearance.
- Maintain communication with banks and agencies for import and export activities.
- Liaise with government officials, C&F agents, banks, freight forwarders, and transport services for export and import purposes.
- Ensure timely collection of Proceeds Realization Certificates (PRC) from banks for Incentive claim and others.
- Coordinate for cash incentives on specific products and negotiate preferential exchange rates with banks.
- Submit shipping documents to customs stations on time. Handle customs processes, export clearance, and documentation in compliance with BEPZA rules.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of import and export, international business, trading, customs clearing and forwarding, and all aspects of the commercial department’s operations.
- Ensure efficient logistics for import activities.
- Other activities related to job responsibilities.
