Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Social Science (BSS), Master of Social Science (MSS)
  • Bachelor / Masters’s degree in Social Science, Diploma in Physiotherapy or a related field. Specialized training in CBR or disability inclusion is an advantage.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years

  • Age at most 45 years
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in working with communities, particularly with children and youth with disabilities, is highly desirable. Basic understanding of disability rights and inclusive development principles.
  • Basic understanding of CBR principles and disability rights frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection and basic reporting in English.
  • Ability to engage with diverse groups, including families, children, and community stakeholders.
  • Basic record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Computer skills: Very good skills in MS Office applications-word/excel/power point presentation, database and familiar with Internet.
  • Having Motorcycle with valid license and Computer & Smart Phone is must.
  • Women and Persons with disabilities will get special consideration based on their qualification and experience.

Responsibilities & Context

The CBR Worker will be directly involved in the field-level implementation of activities aimed at promoting the inclusion and empowerment of children and youth with disabilities across all domains of CBR. This role requires engaging with families, communities, and local stakeholders to ensure access to education, health, livelihood opportunities, and social participation for persons with disabilities.

Job Location: The position is based in Chattogram City Corporation of Chattogram and with regular travel to Thana and Word level for implementation of project activities smoothly.

Responsibilities:

  • Sensitize the community to change perceptions toward disability through advocacy and community engagement.
  • Support in conducting accessibility assessments for community schools in collaboration with the community.
  • Facilitate the early identification of disabilities and early intervention measures.
  • Promote mainstreaming and inclusion of children with disabilities in schools.
  • Mobilize local communities to engage in and participate in Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) activities.
  • Within the framework of the CBR matrix, work with families and communities to identify and implement sustainable measures to empower persons with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with families and communities to undertake activities that prevent disabilities, including but not limited to prevention talks, identification, referrals, and follow-ups tailored to families’ needs and questions.
  • Conduct home visits for persons with disabilities and provide training to improve their skills and abilities to participate in family and social life.
  • Provide social support to children with disabilities and their families.
  • Identify and refer children with disabilities in need of care to appropriate services.
  • Follow up with persons referred for services and care.
  • Encourage communities to create inclusive economic empowerment opportunities.
  • Participate in the planning, organization, and reporting of community outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with local government services and authorities to provide services to persons with disabilities by sharing reports and information.
  • Work with NGOs to deliver sustainable interventions for children with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with persons with disabilities by involving them in program activities.
  • Undertake local resource mobilization initiatives to benefit children and youth with disabilities.
  • Sensitize households and communities about Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) issues and Mental Health (MH).
  • Identify and refer individuals suspected of having ENT or mental health issues to appropriate health facilities.
  • Sensitize households and communities on basic hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete individual rehabilitation plans (IRPs) using logbooks aligned with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
  • Arrange skills training and capital support for youth with disabilities and their caregivers to start enterprises at the community level.
  • Support the organization of medical camps in the community.
  • Assist in forming Community Resource Centers, Youth Panels, and Student Forums.
  • Facilitate training programs at the community level.
  • Conduct community-level advocacy to promote the rights of children and youth with disabilities.
  • Maintain child record datasheets.

Field Implementation of CBR Activities:

  • Conduct home visits to assess the needs of children and youth with disabilities and their families.
  • Support individuals with disabilities in accessing services such as healthcare, education, and vocational training.
  • Facilitate inclusive community activities to promote social participation and empowerment.

Awareness and Community Engagement:

  • Organize and participate in community meetings to raise awareness about disability inclusion and rights.
  • Build positive relationships with community members to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Address misconceptions and reduce stigma associated with disabilities through dialogue and advocacy.

Support Services and Referrals:

  • Assist in identifying and connecting individuals with disabilities to appropriate service providers.
  • Follow up on referrals to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
  • Provide basic support and guidance to families in caring for children and youth with disabilities.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of program activities, including beneficiary information and progress updates.
  • Regularly report on field activities, challenges, and achievements to the CBR Officer.
  • Participate in program reviews and contribute to the evaluation of outcomes.

Capacity Building:

  • Participate in training sessions to improve knowledge and skills in CBR and disability inclusion.
  • Support peer learning and share best practices within the community.

Collaboration with Program Team:

  • Work closely with CBR Officers and other program staff to align field activities with program goals.
  • Provide feedback from the community to inform program planning and improvement.
