Responsibilities & Context
Job Context:
Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) Bangladesh is looking for a qualified and committed person with strong business management professional background for the position of Chief Business Officer-CBO to oversee and strengthen the management system of its Social Enterprises leading to improved efficiencies in all its operational performances. Social Enterprises are one of the major commercial ventures of GUK operated to achieve following 3 key objectives.
They are;
- Promoting Brand Value by offering best quality products/services at affordable costs/price;
- Creating employment opportunities for youths;
- Generating revenues to support welfare activities of GUK.
Currently GUK operating a total 11 enterprises of varied size, nature and capacities ranging from foods & Beverage to medical services, printing press, technical training center to formal educations.
Joy Responsibilities:
- Enhance, flesh out, and implement optimal roadmap for impact as described in the business plans of individual enterprises including contributing to landscaping and identifying potential investment opportunities and /or expansions in services and products;
- Oversee the operational management of investments and support respective teams to drive impact and uptake of financial services to enterprise growth as a model;
- Direct teams to design and execute interventions within direct and collaborating partnerships with an array of key enablers, such as financial and non-financial practitioners, enterprises, policy and regulatory bodies as well as multilateral organizations in country to unlock and deploy new sources of capital for the financial services team;
- Oversees and directs the development and execution of the overall business plans and periodical work plans, and track the achievements of respective enterprises;
- Facilitates establishment of work streams with clear goals, scopes, leaders, teams and work plans, that are documented in clear concept notes or implementation guidelines;
- Ensures activities are implemented to the highest possible professional standard, on time and on budget;
- Periodically review and update strategy milestones and targets;
- Utilizing knowledge and insight gained from implementation, identify key interventions, trends and relationships that could significantly enable and/or scale impact in business arena;
- Direct teams to collaboratively design new products and services as well penetration into new market segments, as applicable;
- Contribute to and deploy systems and tools with supporting teams of the mother organization, GUK (Finance, HRM & Admin, R&D etc) to ensure consistent and high-quality management practices;
- Develop and refine market strategy to ensure the competitiveness of products and services;
- Oversee and control efficiency in management functions of interrelated departments of each enterprise such as finance, admin and others;
- Oversee development and execution of annual operations plans and budgets;
- Develop and enhance policies and standard operating procedures, including financial management, employee manuals, and other guides to ensure optimal environment for compliance with GUK’s standards and practices;
- Demonstrate consistent quality of finance and administration, fund allocation, communications and systems;
- Grows high performing teams with high levels of autonomy in the delivery of individual work streams
- Supervises, mentors, and motivates team members, including technical and operational staff from multiple disciplines, to foster individual growth and team building;
- With R&D and HRM team, develop and deploy standards and best practices for staff recruitment, job training, and on boarding processes for employees to ensure acquisition and retention of top talent;
- Establish and maintain an empowering, productive, and collaborative environment for employees by providing clear performance goals, offering regular, specific feedback on job performance, organizing enterprise based team meetings, and encouraging to set and achieve goals of individual enterpises;
- Provide leadership in development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting employees leading to growth & expansions of enterprises;
- Ensure integration of GUK’s core values and standards and best practices into all aspects of enterprise operation;
- Take up innovations that improve effectiveness of enterprises and/or acceleration of impact delivery in all its services;
- Promote intellectual curiosity, iterative learning and adaption of approaches, models and practices;
- Develop key performance indicators to measure progress on priority initiatives and outcomes;
- Explore opportunities for new funding sources, extending strategic and operational partnership with national and international organizations;
- Establish high quality, transparent and responsive communication system within the enterprises and between mother organization, GUK;
- Promote products and services through effective means of advertisement and promotional campaign;
- Maintain communication and relationship with key stakeholders for building business partnership for exposure of company products and services to wider environment;
- Prepare and finalize enterprise specific Annual Reports, Progress Reports and any other periodical reports in practice;
- Seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough business strategies;
- Building strong-identity teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve set goals of enterprises;
- Applying knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals with its social enterprises;
