INDICATORS OF SUCCESS

  • Guide the owners of the hotel for selecting the right Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing System of the hotel to achieve hotel functionality and maximum operational efficiency. In addition, supervise the Civil, Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing Engineering works of the hotel during pre-opening and post opening phase.
  • Completion of all Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Civil Projects of the hotel – on time and as per the budget.
  • Manage and supervise installation, commissioning and testing of all Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing System (including related equipment) during the pre-opening of the hotel project. At the same time, supervise all Civil Engineering works that includes ID and report the same to the QHL Management.
  • Ensure coordination among all vendors, contractors and consultants for installation, commissioning and testing of all Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing System of the hotel. In addition, supervise the Civil Engineering and ID work to ensure coordination among all among all vendors, contractors, and consultants.
  • Adherence to budget during project implementation.
  • Once the hotel is in operation, direct and monitor all maintenance programs for guest rooms, back of the house, public spaces, and equipment to ensure the reliability, safety, and comfort of all guests and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum Ten to Fifteen years of working experience that includes minimum Three to Five Years as Chief Engineer.
  • Working experience in Hospitality Industry both in Bangladesh and Overseas would be preferable.
  • Hotel or Hospital Pre-Opening experience will be considered as an added advantage.
  • Advance working knowledge in managing Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing System –Especially in the areas of: o  Sub-Station o Back-Up Generators o HVAC System (Chiller & VRF)o  Fire Protection & Detection System o Water Management System o Building Management System (BMS) o Vertical Transportation System o Surveillance Systemo  PABXo  Kitchen & Laundry Equipment
  • Knowledge of local and international regulation like IEE, NEC, BNBC, IBC, ADDC etc.
  • Advance knowledge and experience in Experience in supervising installation, modification & maintenance of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing works & trouble shooting.
  • Adept in Troubleshooting, Technical Budgeting and to ensure Operational Efficiency and Compliance.
  • Skilled in People Management, Risk Management and Energy Saving.
  • Able to resolve conflicts with guests, supervisors, employees, external vendors, contractors, suppliers, consultants.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers to ensure teamwork.
  • Capable of preparing Engineering SOPs.
  • Good organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities & Context

Direct, guide and execute the long-term planning of setting-up the Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Plumbing System of the hotel in coordination with the selected vendors, suppliers, consultants, and employees. Ensure all the Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and Civil Systems installed at the hotel are at par with technical, five-star international hotel & government guideline. The position ensures full process is maintained while handover / takeover of all the Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and Civil system of the hotel prior to hotel operation. Once the hotel is in operation, position purpose is to direct and monitors on-going maintenance programs for all guest rooms, back of the house, public spaces, and equipment to ensure the reliability, safety, and comfort of all guests and staff with the support of the Engineering Team and QHL Management.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

As Chief Engineer, participates in the development and implementation of business strategies for the hotel. which are aligned with Q HOTEL Dhaka’s overall mission, vision, values, and strategies.

  • Develops and implements strategies for hotel engineering department (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing) that support achievement of the hotel’s pre-opening goals as well as post opening operational goals.
  • Monitors the status of project implementation of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing System, reports the status and progress, and recommend adjustments to the QHL Management as appropriate.
  • Develop Civil, Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing budgets of the hotel in conjunction with the QHL Management.
  • Develops and implements strategies for hotel engineering department that support achievement of the hotel’s goals.
  • Monitors engineering status regularly and adjusts strategies as appropriate.
  • Continually improve hotel engineering department and adheres to the hotel brand standards.
  • Maximizes profitability and revenue by directing the Engineering department.
  • Manages the Engineering department and third-party vendors to ensure superior service and quality for the Hotel Guests.
  • Develop and implement Quality Control Programs for the Hotel.
  • Reviews Property Operations and Maintenance related contracts and negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Interprets plans and contract terms with Engineering team in collaboration with the Finance Team and manage engineering related vendors, contractors, and consultants.
  • Monitors compliance with building safety codes, health and safety laws and other regulations, conduct walk-throughs to assess the safety and efficiency of equipment and maintenance of structure.
  • Maintains Responsible Business programs and training for hotel employees.▪ Ensures Environment Compliance as per Government Guidelines.
  • Manages hotel renovations, coordinates project status with the QHL Management, architects, licensing agencies, contractors, and consultants.
  • Develops and implements strategies and practices which support employee engagement.
  • Recruits and selects qualified candidates for the Engineering Department both in Pre-Opening and Post Opening phase.
  • Provides technical and non-technical employees of the hotel with the orientation and training needed to understand expectations and perform job responsibilities.
  • Communicates performance expectations of Property Operations & Maintenance (POM) Department / Engineering Department and provide relevant employees with on-going feedback.
  • Provides departmental employees with coaching and counselling as needed to achieve performance objectives and reach their fullest potential.
  • Drives employee engagement through the creation and implementation of Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and Civil departmental action plans.
  • Creates 100% guest satisfaction by providing the positive experience through performance that demonstrates the standards of genuine hospitality and exceeding guest expectations.
  • Provides employees with the training and resources they need to maximize employee engagement and deliver expected service and teamwork.
  • Communicates and reinforces the vision for delivering superior service to the engineering employees.
  • Ensures that engineering employees provide genuine hospitality and teamwork on an ongoing basis.
  • Seeks opportunities to improve the customer experience by seeking customer feedback and reviewing management reports and developing strategies to improve department and hotel services.
  • Provides engineering employees with the tools, training, and environment they need to deliver genuine service and teamwork.
  • Adheres to Hotel Policies and Procedures.
  • Keeps the QHL Management promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance related to engineering and property operations and maintenance.
  • Communicates effectively with guests, co-workers, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and consultants and inform the QHL Management on a timely manner.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  • Perform and execute all official instructions & assignments given by the Managing Director QHL.
