Experience:

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with child protection laws and policies in Bangladesh.

Responsibilities & Context

Community Development Centre (CODEC) is going to implement the Contingency Partnership to Respond to Emergencies in Chattogram Division, funded by UNICEF Bangladesh; which will assist affected populations in Cumilla, Feni and Noakhali districts., Covering health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, education, and social behavior change.

The project targets over 600,000 individuals, focusing on pregnant women, children, and vulnerable groups. Key activities include medical camps, nutritional support, safe water and sanitation facilities, child protection, and educational continuity, all integrated with capacity development.

Duration – 06 months.

Job Summary:

The Child Protection Officer will oversee the implementation of child protection activities aimed at addressing the immediate and long-term psychosocial needs of children, adolescents, and caregivers in flood-affected areas. The officer will manage community-based psychosocial support, organize Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS), and lead training sessions for caregivers on positive parenting and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention. Additionally, the Child Protection Officer will ensure coordination with relevant stakeholders, including the Department of Social Services (DSS), for effective case management and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation of Child Protection Activities:

  • Lead the implementation of child protection interventions, including Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) sessions for children, adolescents, and caregivers.
  • Organize Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) and facilitate recreational and psychosocial support (PSS) activities to help children develop coping strategies.
  • Conduct awareness-raising sessions on child protection issues such as abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and child marriage.
  • Act as the Focal Person – Gender, PSEA and CSG for the project.

Community Engagement & Training:

  • Provide training for caregivers on positive parenting techniques, stress management, and coping mechanisms.
  • Conduct GBV awareness sessions for affected men, women, and caregivers to prevent exploitation and abuse.
  • Lead orientation and sensitization programs for volunteers and project staff on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).

Coordination & Case Management:

  • Collaborate with the Department of Social Services (DSS) and other partner organizations to provide tailored support and case management services to children at risk.
  • Ensure that children’s basic needs are met and facilitate their access to essential services, including health, education, and protection.

Volunteer Management:

  • Supervise the recruitment, training, and deployment of 100 community-based psychosocial volunteers to deliver PFA, raise awareness on child protection, and report any incidents of abuse or exploitation.

Reporting & Monitoring:

  • Monitor child protection outcomes, assess the effectiveness of psychosocial support activities, and report findings to the Project Coordinator.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on child protection interventions to donors and other stakeholders, documenting challenges, successes, and lessons learned.

PSEA Policy-

S/he should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)’s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy. Ensure the safety of team members (in respect to Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse – PSEA) from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

PSEA Implementation:

  • Establish and operationalize complaint and feedback mechanisms to address incidents of sexual exploitation and abuse.
  • Support community sensitization efforts on safe and accessible channels for reporting PSEA cases.

Contingent Task Assignments:

The Project Head may assign additional tasks based on the demands of the emergency situation and program requirements.
