Requirements

Responsibilities & Context

NRC Bangladesh established operations in 2018, and currently maintains operational offices in Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya, and Dhaka, NRC interventions are based on the humanitarian principles, which we promote and apply in order to increase the acceptance of humanitarian assistance amongst target populations, as well as to facilitate and enable access. Bangladesh is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries while also hosting nearly 1 million Rohingya refugees in the District of Cox’s Bazar. The response to the Rohingya refugees is a protracted emergency in which displacement and recurrent climate disasters combine. This is set against a backdrop of continued conflict in Rakhine State, Myanmar NRC also works with host communities and with Bangladesh communities affected by climate change – including emergency relief, displacement and building resilience. The humanitarian context is characterised by multiple localised emergencies adversely affecting communities and populations with low levels of resilience, high vulnerability and acute poverty.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely, high-quality, fresh, communication, advocacy and fundraising products as part of the agreed strategy for the Country Office.
  • Ensure that NRC’s advocacy and communications activities promote the voice and well-being of the communities we work with.
  • Represent NRC comms in appropriate meetings to create strong understanding of NRC’s communication and advocacy objectives.
  • Coordinate internally with the team and with external stakeholders such as donors and media to ensure NRC BD messaging is clear, professional, aligned and impactful.
  • Work to always support the image and brand of NRC in Bangladesh and globally, ensuring adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.

Specific responsibilities

  • Work with colleagues to develop, design and deliver against the advocacy and communications action plan using a variety of different products (visuals, case studies, infographics, tweets, reports etc), in collaboration with media and communications colleagues at the regional and global levels as needed.
  • Archive all materials safely and securely.
  • Support delivery/revision of strategy, reports, documents, and other key messages with the Advocacy and Comms Manager.
  • Arrange and deliver regular comms trainings, briefing sessions and workshops.
  • Support teams with the development of visibility and community-engagement materials, ensuring these are developed in compliance with NRC and donor guidelines.
  • Undertake regular travel to NRC programme locations to gather content, including in emergencies, and support staff with communications-related activities.
  • Support the provision of high-quality analysis on the humanitarian situation pertaining to those affected by displacement, to inform internal and external advocacy products such as briefings and donor-focused messages, ensuring strong evidence-base in messaging and following agreed sign-off procedures.

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

Country Office: Head of Programme, Area Manager(s), specialists, Protection Consortium Manager and NGO Platform Manager

Regional Office: Regional Advocacy Adviser, Regional Communication Adviser

External: Consortium members and other NGO groups in Bangladesh
