Responsibilities & Context
Background:
Bangladesh government is yet to develop urban primary healthcare (PHC) like rural PHC in Bangladesh. Hence, urban PHC is dependent on the Out Patient Department (OPD) of public and private tertiary hospitals. So, a huge portion of the urban dwellers especially the vulnerable community remain deprived of getting healthcare. Eventually, their Out of Pocket (OOP) expenditure on health exceeds the limit for depending mostly on private health sector. At this backdrop, Model Urban PHC Clinics (Aalo Clinics) project has been in place designed and developed by a group of experts. Based on the model, Partners in Health and Development – PHD (along with two implementing partners; CMED and NARI MAITREE) has been assigned by UNICEF as the lead organization to implement a sustainable system to manage GP centers focused on performance-based payment (P4P) system by the empaneled GPs and allied health workers. The objective is to deliver all components of ESP service both in PHC clinic and community level with a view to promote urban PHC to government for wider scale-up.
A major part of health and nutrition services delivery entails the need of relevant issue based counseling. Mainstream service providers do not have adequate time and scope for counseling on required health and nutrition issues. A holistic client-friendly professional approach is required for the expected outcome of the Model Urban PHC project.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide counselling service on:
- Adolescent, maternal, child health & nutrition based on relevant national guidelines, protocol, folders, brochures, leaflets etc.

- Prevention of low birth weight, underweight, stunting, wasting and malnutrition
- Prevention of pelvic inflammatory diseases, sexually transmitted infections, HIV etc.
- Gender based violence (GBV), violence against children (VAC), early child marriage (ECM) etc.
- Issue based counseling on all disease with special emphasis on Communicable and Non Communicable Disease (NCD) as guided by GPs in clinics
- Ensure confidentiality of information.
