Responsibilities & Context
About The Hunger Project
The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate individual and collective action to transform the systems of inequity that create hunger and cause it to persist. We are a global movement of individuals and organizations in 22 countries around the world. Across Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, The Hunger Project works in 9,500 rural communities, reaching 12.5 million people. Our programs are based on an innovative, holistic approach, which supports people living in rural communities to become agents of their own development, address root causes, and make sustainable progress in hunger and poverty reduction.

THP-Bangladesh is a highly-regarded NGO in Bangladesh. It implements a volunteer-based program for gender-focused community-led development in 2,000 rural communities across all 8 divisions of the country. Tens of thousands of grassroots volunteers are organized in networks at the Union, Upazila, District and National Level focused on youth, women’s leadership, advocacy for the rights of girls, good governance and preventing violence. Its core program is the “SDG Union Strategy” which works in partnership with local governments to localize and achieve SDGs by 2030. A highly committed staff supports community-led action from ten regional offices nationwide. THP-Bangladesh is currently funded by ten grants from funding agencies including the EC, FCDO, BMZ, USAID and private foundations.
Role purpose
The Country Director serves as the leader of all THP activities within the Program Country, is responsible for translating the global strategic vision into strategic country plans, providing strategic leadership, and overall staff and programmatic management to achieve THP’s mission and objectives. The Country Director oversees all aspects of country strategy, program implementation, staff management, financial supervision, grant management, fundraising, representation, communication and influence, safety and security, compliance with legal requirements, and good governance. The Country Director is the external spokesperson for the organization and is charged with driving impact and influence at the national level.
This full-time position is based out of THP Bangladesh office in Dhaka. The position reports to the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and works in close collaboration with the Global Office, funders (including Partner Countries), and various global functions (including Human Resources, Finance & Operations, Global Grants & Compliance, Communication & Fundraising, Global Learning Team, and Global Influence Team).
