Responsibilities & Context
- Design and develop logical and physical database models based on business requirements and industry best practices
- Design, develop, and implement database solutions to meet the application’s data storage and retrieval requirements
- Evaluate database technologies and make recommendations for database architecture, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehousing solutions
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, software developers to understand data requirements and objectives
- Collaborate with software developers to design database schemas and optimize database queries for performance and scalability
- Normalize database schemas to reduce redundancy and ensure data integrity
- Define data structures, relationships, and constraints to optimize database performance and scalability
- Develop data migration and transformation strategies to facilitate the transition from existing data sources to new database designs
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) and related software
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues such as slow queries, database locks, and resource contention
- Perform data profiling and analysis to identify data quality issues and recommend solutions for data cleansing and validation
- Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and data masking
- Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability
- Define and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for databases
- Document data dictionaries, metadata, database designs, configurations, and procedures for reference, knowledge sharing and training purposes
- Provide technical guidance and support to other team members and stakeholders on database-related matters
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in database management
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
