  • Thorough understanding of best practices and evidence-based strategies in GBV response (case management, psychosocial support, legal support, medical support) and GBV secondary and tertiary prevention and risk reduction

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating practical workshops and educating on issues including gender-based violence, adolescent girls’ protection and empowerment, GBV response and service provisions

  • Strong writing skills and experience in writing donor reports and proposals and grant management

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and competing tasks, meet deadlines and maintain composure

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading and strengthening project team in a dynamic, challenging and changing context, including experience with remote management

  • Excellent communication, listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, maintain confidentiality, respect of all ages, background and diversity

Responsibilities & Context

Provide response and prevention to gender-based violence through direct interventions impacting the lives of women, girls, men and boys, diversified gender and mainstreaming in other response programming and operational areas.

Programming:

  • Provide leadership to the project team and oversee successful implementation and coordination of GBV response and prevention programs to support vulnerable women and girls from camps, urban areas and hard to reach areas

  • Lead in the establishment of women & girls safe spaces including finding space, recruiting staff and establishing center and mobile unit services

  • Update and maintain a consolidated master program data and indicator tracker on a weekly basis to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data provided

  • Follow up on the roll out of case management and core competency assessments and supervision tools with case management team to monitor comprehension of and ability to apply key concepts

  • In collaboration with the sector lead develop work plans, oversee implementation or program, and track indicators to measure progress

  • Ensure compliance of program operations with guidelines and BRAC’s global programming principles

  • In collaboration with the sector lead and M&E team, develop and undertake assessments as required by the program work plan, as well as relevant monitoring and evaluation to inform additional programming needs and design

  • Supervise the provision and quality of trainings for local partners and staff on GBV basics, basic counseling, case management, life skills and other key GBV resources for partners, community members, and service providers

  • Provide ongoing technical support, mentoring and guidance to project staff and partners to ensure programming meets GBV best practice and guiding principles

  • Actively contribute to the creation and implementation of Protection sector strategy to meet the needs of GBV survivors, including response to emergencies as they arise

  • Undertake field monitoring visits to assess progress and identify technical quality and implementation issues, provide solutions and implement modifications and improvement plans as required

  • Prepare program updates in close collaboration with senior staff to identify key achievements and challenges in program implementation

  • Undertake other relevant tasks as requested by sector lead and senior management      

Grant Management and Reporting:

  • In coordination with sector lead/Project manager, PDDR and Grants Unit, contribute to the development of proposals and concept notes for expanding Protection portfolio

  • Prepare internal and external reports within agreed deadlines using BRAC and donor formats

  • Manage the project budget; oversee all budget expenditures and ensure they are allowable and allocable according to BRAC and donor regulations; review monthly Budget vs. Actual and expenditure sheets, feed corrections

  • Ensure that program implementation is in line with the technical proposals, project timelines and budgets

Staff Management and Development:

  • Maintain open, supportive, and professional relationships with team members, and promote a strong team spirit

  • Provide day-to-day management support and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions

  • Ensure timely completion and submission of monthly timesheets, probation reviews, appraisals and annual performance reviews

  • Provide regular on-going and constructive feedback to develop their practice

  • Provide related feedback to teams, develop action plans

  • Coach, train, and mentor staff with the aim of strengthening their technical capacity, exchanging knowledge within the team, address gaps and providing professional development

  • Assist with the recruitment and on-boarding of Protection staff with follow up mentoring, and identify opportunities for further learning and refreshers

  • Conduct and/or supervise high-quality learning sessions and provide mentoring on needed aspects of Protection and other relevant skills and resources

Coordination:

  • Collaborate with field team and other operations staff to ensure programming is properly supported and that all activities are conducted according to BRAC Administration, HR, Logistics, Finance and other policies and procedures

  • Coordinate with BRAC’s Protection Clusters and other departments as required to ensure effective and collaborative working relationships

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including community members, NGOs, government authorities and UN agencies

  • Participate in internal coordination meetings as required and liaise with BRAC’s other programs as needed to ensure effective collaboration, program integration, and mainstreaming of GBV risk mitigation for the best possible outcome

  • Represent the BRAC at relevant interagency coordination meetings and task forces as required

  • Coordinate and follow-up with partner organizations and other project stakeholders as required

Safeguarding:

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so
