Requirements
Education
Master’s degree in Social Science or any relevant subjects.
Additional Requirements
- 5 years in relevant occupational experience with international exposure
- 3 years of professional experience in conducting trainings, advisory services, conducting hazard identification and risk assessment on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the tannery sector and or similar industry
- Lead auditor course on OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 or any other international standards on management system would be an asset
- In depth knowledge of human and labour law standards and compliance at company level and in global supply chains, especially in the leather/similar industry
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla, proficiency in German language will be an advantage;
- Excellent command of MS-Office and other web-based applications/software tools;
- Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication/IT systems;
- Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player;
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work in an intercultural environment.
Responsibilities & Context
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
For the team of our “Good Working Conditions in Tanneries, GO!TAN”, we seek applications for the position of “Economic Cooperation and Private Sector Development Advisor”.
A. Responsibilities
- The position holder is responsible for the below tasks:
- Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior
- Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups
- Advice supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation
- Advice supervisor in the field of project’s planning, steering and monitoring
- Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager
- Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit
- Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:
B. Tasks (Specific for Job Role)
- planning, organizing and implementing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures related activities at tannery level
- implementing risk assessment measures on OHS and use innovation in controlling the identified risks
- designing and implementing OHS campaign measures for the workers in tannery sector
- mobilizing the tannery owners, associations and other relevant stakeholders in streamlining their required support
- establishing networking with the OHS professionals, relevant organizations in creating better coordination
- providing advisory support and coordinating capacity development for partner personnel (Ministry of Labour and Employment and Department of Inspections for Factories and Establishments) with regards to adoption and implementation of inspection system in the tannery sector
- coordinate with international experts and consultants and providing required support as to create the best outputs of assignment
- assisting in conducting a constructive dialogue with the private sector, civil society, national and international organisations, research and international development cooperation programmes to achieve better working conditions in tanneries
- coordinate the Leather Development Forum (LDF) activities and provide support to the secretariate of LDF to make it fully functional
- participate is discussion with other development partners with the aim of synergies
- planning, steering and monitoring of the project activities to achieve the project goals
