  • Experience in working in the Cox’s Bazar or Bhasan Char Operation will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexity related to refugee and IDP situations.

  • Proficiency in English, particularly in writing and speaking, is essential.
  • Skilled in Computer literacy- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities & Context

  • Red Cross – Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President’s Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people over the last 53 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.
  • Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position of its Bhasanchar Operation:
  • Duration of contract: Initially up to 31 December 2024 (with the possibility of extension).
  • Reporting to: Program and Reporting Manager, Bhasan Char Operation.
  • Duty station: Bhasan Char, Hatiya Noakhali.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of DRR strategies, working closely with UNHCR, CiC office, community members, and other camp actors to reduce disaster vulnerabilities.
  • Support the participatory contingency planning process for cyclones, water logging, and fires in collaboration with affected communities, ensuring that all plans are relevant and responsive to potential risks.
  • Assist in conducting disaster risk vulnerability assessments and mapping in Bhasan Char and sharing findings with relevant sector leads and stakeholders for informed decision-making.
  • Help in managing EPRVs by ensuring they are adequately trained, equipped, and supported to effectively respond to emergencies.
  • Support the coordination and execution of regular disaster response drills in collaboration with key partners like the fire department, the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP), and the CiC office to ensure preparedness.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating lists of volunteer groups within the camp that can be mobilized swiftly for disaster response activities.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating capacity-building sessions and training programs for BDRCS staff and volunteers on DRR strategies, enhancing camp-wide preparedness.
  • Attend DMC meetings at Bhasan Char level, representing BDRCS and UNHCR as needed, to ensure alignment with other sectors on emergency preparedness activities.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and periodical reports on emergency preparedness activities, ensuring timely reporting to BDRCS authorities and donor agencies with strong English language and reporting proficiency.
  • Help in monitoring and managing emergency preparedness resources such as tools and equipment required by EPRVs for effective response during disasters.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Salary Range: Up to BDT. 35,000/- (Monthly Consolidated).
