Responsibilities & Context

  • Planning and Delivering Age-Appropriate Activities and Lessons: Designing and delivering engaging lessons that align with the UK National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, including English, mathematics, and science. Designing and implementing engaging and developmentally appropriate activities that promote learning across different areas such as communication and language, physical development, personal, social, and emotional development, literacy, and mathematics.
  • Creating a Stimulating Learning Environment: Setting up the classroom environment to encourage exploration, play, and learning, with a focus on both indoor and outdoor spaces that support different types of play and learning experiences.
  • Observation and Assessment: Regularly observing children to assess their development, interests, and learning styles. Using observations to inform individualized planning and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of all children. Conducting formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ progress and attainment against learning objectives. Using assessment data to inform planning, set targets, and identify areas for intervention or additional support.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Development:
  • Developing students’ reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills through structured phonics instruction, guided reading, and writing workshops. Teaching mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies through hands-on activities, games, and practical tasks.
  • Promoting Critical Thinking and Inquiry:
  • Encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and independent inquiry through investigative science activities, research projects, and problem-solving challenges.
  • Incorporating ICT (Information and Communication Technology):
  • Integrating technology tools and resources into teaching and learning activities to enhance engagement and support digital literacy skills.
  • Building Positive Relationships: Establishing positive and supportive relationships with children and their families, fostering a sense of security and trust that promotes children’s well-being and learning.
  • Collaborating with Colleagues and Parents: Working closely with other preschool staff members and communicating effectively with parents or caregivers to share information about children’s progress, development, and any concerns.
  • Maintaining Health and Safety Standards: Ensuring that the preschool environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning, following health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Encouraging Language and Communication Skills: Supporting children’s language development through conversations, storytelling, and other language-rich activities.
  • Supporting Personal and Social Development: Helping children develop social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and resolving conflicts peacefully, while promoting independence and self-regulation.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Keeping records of children’s progress and achievements, maintaining portfolios, and preparing reports for parents and school administrators.
  • Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated on best practices in early childhood education, EYFS curriculum and Key Stage 1 (Grade 1 and 2)
