Requirements

Education

  • Essential: Bachelor degree in Mass Communication & Journalism or any other related degree, Masters degree in relevant field is a plus.

Additional Requirements

Experience

  • Essential: Previous working experience of at least one year in communications, journalism, or public relations in the country with networking and media relation; previous working experience in producing written and/or audio-visual content with good command in Photoshop & Premier Pro is plus.

Language

  • Essential: proficiency in writing and speaking Bangla and English.

  • Desirable: ability to communicate in Chittagonian dialect or knowledge of Rohingya language.

Competencies       

  • Essential : Excellent writing and storytelling skills·

  • Essential : Good understanding of social media·       

  • Essential : Computer Skills – Microsoft Office programs

  • Desirable : Strong understanding of Bangladeshi/Rohingya context

Responsibilities & Context

Accountabilities:

a) Media Management

  •  Under the supervision of the Field Communications Manager, the FCO establishes and maintains regular relations with key local media contacts (journalists, bloggers, photographers, and Videographer).

  •   He/ she will handle local media requests and contact local media proactively to pitch MSF.

  •   He/she organizes events for local media (press conference or briefing, etc.).

  •   He/she drafts talking points or key messages for spokespersons to assist in media request with support of FCM.

b) Media Alert

  •  The FCO monitors local media and flags significant articles, trends, news or reports of importance for MSF or on the context to Field Communications Manager (FCM) and Country Representative

  •  He/she produces strategic reports on the local media landscape (key media, audience numbers, political affiliation, ownership, freedom of speech, use of social media) and regularly reports on new developments.

  •  He/she works with FCM on how to deal with local media at time of crisis

c) Content Diffusion

  •  The FCO actively disseminates MSF content in the country in Bangla and among local media. If needed, liaises with social media officer to promote this content on social platforms

  •  In case needed, FCO supports social media officer dissemination tasks under supervision of FCM.

d) Content Production

  •  The FCO produces, as required written, and AV content for dissemination on local media or MSF social media platforms, in particular MSF Bangladesh FB page

  •  The FCO liaises with specific external providers and supervises the production of local communication tools and products (leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, videos) according to local strategy and budget.

  •  In particular, he/she will help identify the right communications tools and will adapt/translate communications materials to targeted local audiences

e) Internal Communication

  •  He/ she will sensitize staff about potential external communications risks.

  •  If need be he/ she will edit the production of internal communication tools (newsletter, etc.) under the supervision of the FCM.

  •   When applicable the FCO will provide communication training for staff

f) Reporting

The FCO will participate in communication data-collection and reporting as required.MSF Section/Context Specific

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

The position is based in Cox’s Bazar under the intersectional office, but may have to travel occasionally and stay in Dhaka & Ukhiya for coordination purposes or to support MSF’s activities there.

Media management:

a) Will pitch MSF stories to local and national media under the guidance of FCM.

b) Building rapports with local and national level journalists; facilitate media requests and visits.

c) Drafting/ prepare key messages and talking points for MSF Spokespersons for media interviews.

d) Monitor media and understand the trend/tone of news/topics that falls under scope of organization operations; provide media summary.

e) Provide media and communication techniques training as needed.·      

Content collection :

a) Content production and diffusion, as needed.

b) Other tasks requested by supervisor.

Contract and Benefit:

  • 12 month- contract renewable based on performance and operational needs. Salary according to level Four (7) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 78000 Gross). Salary is non-negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule.

  • 2 annual leave days per month worked.

  • Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.
