Experience:

- Willingness to travel frequently to remote or hard-to-reach project areas.

Responsibilities & Context
Community Development Centre (CODEC) is going to implement the Contingency Partnership to Respond to Emergencies in Chattogram Division, funded by UNICEF Bangladesh; which will assist affected populations in Cumilla, Feni and Noakhali districts., Covering health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, education, and social behavior change.
The project targets over 600,000 individuals, focusing on pregnant women, children, and vulnerable groups. Key activities include medical camps, nutritional support, safe water and sanitation facilities, child protection, and educational continuity, all integrated with capacity development.
Duration – 06 months.
Job Summary:
The Field Engineer (WASH) will be responsible for assessing, supervising, and executing the rehabilitation of water points, sanitation facilities, and other critical WASH infrastructure under the project. The engineer will ensure that engineering solutions are effectively implemented to restore water and sanitation services, closely collaborating with the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and other relevant stakeholders. Additionally, the Field Engineer will oversee the technical quality of interventions and prepare documentation and reports on the progress.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Assessment:
- Conduct assessments of damage to water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure in affected areas, particularly water points, latrines, and sanitation facilities in poor households and shelters.
- Collaborate with local authorities and DPHE to determine priority areas for rehabilitation and restoration based on assessments.
Supervision of Rehabilitation Work:
- Supervise and manage the disinfection and rehabilitation of 1,000 water points and 160 shared water points, ensuring adherence to engineering standards and project goals.
- Oversee the restoration, operation, and maintenance of water points in households and shelters, ensuring that all disinfection activities are conducted effectively.
- Ensure that sanitation facilities in households, shelters, and evacuation points are cleaned and rehabilitated in a timely manner, with a focus on 50 gender- and disability-friendly latrines for ultra-poor households.
Implementation of Engineering Solutions:
- Implement engineering designs and solutions to ensure the proper functioning of WASH facilities in target areas.
- Provide technical guidance on the installation of handwashing facilities and train communities on the construction and maintenance of tippi-taps for improved hygiene practices.
Collaboration with Stakeholders:
- Work closely with DPHE and other relevant authorities to ensure the smooth coordination and implementation of WASH infrastructure activities.
- Maintain active communication with project teams, volunteers, and local stakeholders to align rehabilitation work with broader project objectives.
Technical Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed technical reports documenting the status, progress, and outcomes of WASH infrastructure rehabilitation activities.
- Ensure all activities are thoroughly documented, including technical specifications, assessments, and materials used in the rehabilitation process.
- Submit reports to the WASH Coordinator and other relevant authorities, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the documentation.
PSEA Policy-
S/he should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)’s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy. Ensure the safety of team members (in respect to Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse – PSEA) from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Contingent Task Assignments:
The Project Head may assign additional tasks based on the demands of the emergency situation and program requirements.
