Responsibilities & Context
Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) is going to implement the “strengthening local leadership to promote resilience, recovery and effective response for the vulnerable communities in Sylhet region and other districts in Bangladesh Project” funded by USAID through Save the Children. Project Duration- October 2024 to March 2026.
The Field Facilitator will implement livelihood restoration initiatives and enhance community awareness on disaster risk management. Key responsibilities include distributing cash grants, providing skills training, and supporting local Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) in risk assessments and early warning systems. The role requires strong communication skills and experience in community engagement, aiming to empower vulnerable households and promote sustainable practices. H/She will report Project Officer.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Field Facilitator will be responsible for implementing the distribution of cash grants to vulnerable households to support the regeneration of livelihood activities.
- They will assist the most vulnerable households, youth, and volunteers in acquiring necessary skills and assets, including seed money for new livelihood interventions.
- Additionally, the facilitator will provide training and technical knowledge on climate-adaptive and risk-informed livelihood practices to enhance resilience in communities.
- Collaboration with local Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) will be essential, as the facilitator supports the facilitation of E-CRA, GIS mapping, and inclusive risk and vulnerability assessments for both urban and rural areas.
- They will develop and disseminate Information and Communication (IEC) materials on hazards such as flash floods, earthquakes, and lightning to raise community awareness.
- The facilitator will lead awareness-raising initiatives among schoolchildren, volunteers, and community groups on multi-hazard forecasting and early warning dissemination.
- They will ensure effective communication of forecasts, early warning messages, and advisories to the community using various channels.
- Assessing community responses to early warning systems will also be part of their responsibilities, helping to identify areas for improvement and enhance overall preparedness.
- The Field Facilitator will assist in digitalizing the DMC database and provide training on SoD, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives.
- They will strengthen the capacity building of community groups and local stakeholders can effectively utilize forecast and early warning information.
- Supporting the development and implementation of community-based risk mitigation and early action plans focused on flash floods and lightning events will be key.
- Finally, the facilitator will work with relevant agencies to strengthen flash flood forecasting systems and support the development of lightning nowcast systems.
- Contributing to the development of integrated platforms for sustainable early warning system dissemination will ensure that timely and accurate information reaches the communities.
- Capacity building of the schoolchildren, volunteers, and community groups.
