Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in food quality testing, laboratory work, or food safety management.
  • Experience in large-scale food production or institutional feeding programmes is preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in laboratory testing techniques and food safety standards.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, ISO 22000, or similar food safety frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the cultural and social context of Bhasanchar or similar locations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and under challenging conditions.
  • Fluency in English and the Bangla language (Rohingya/Chittagonian dialect is highly desirable).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, as well as email and internet browsing.

Job Summary

Bhasanchar Camp, Hatiya, Nohakhali.

The Food Lab Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of food prepared at the central kitchen for the school feeding programme in Bhasanchar. The role involves performing laboratory testing, monitoring hygiene and safety standards, and ensuring compliance with national and international food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine testing of raw materials, semi-finished, and finished food products to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Monitor physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters of food items.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure proper temperature, humidity, and storage conditions of raw and cooked food.
  • Ensure the central kitchen adheres to hygiene protocols and food safety regulations
  • Monitor cleaning and sanitation procedures for equipment, utensils, and the kitchen environment.
  • Conduct inspections of the kitchen, storage, and distribution facilities to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of food safety audits, testing results, and non-compliance reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of test results, inspections, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare and submit regular food safety and quality reports to the Food Safety Manager or relevant authorities.
  • Ensure all documentation is prepared and stored in compliance with organizational policies and audit requirements.
  • Train kitchen staff on food safety protocols and best practices.
  • Provide guidance on personal hygiene, food handling, and storage techniques to minimize risks.
  • Stay updated on the latest food safety standards and disseminate information to relevant teams.
  • Inventory and Laboratory Management:
  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring all tools are calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Monitor and replenish lab chemicals, reagents, and consumables as needed.
  • Ensure the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Coordination and Reporting:
  • Work in close collaboration with the Project Officer, and the school feeding program team to ensure that PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), child protection, and gender considerations are integrated into all activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, finance, and programme teams, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Assist in planning and implementing contingency measures during emergencies.
