Requirements

Education

Preferably Master’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Climate Finance, Environmental Economics, Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Development.

Experience

  • At least 10 years

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in programme management with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing diverse, large-scale programmes.
  • Strong understanding of climate change science, policy, and finance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Bangladesh and development partners.
  • Preferably Master’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Climate Finance, Environmental Economics, Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with a proven ability to foster cross-functional collaboration and build partnerships.

Responsibilities & Context

SAJIDA’s portfolio comprises of community centric development programmes on women’s livelihood and health, climate change and urban poverty, a premier microfinance operation which serves more than 780K+ members through 400 offices, and six specialised healthcare enterprises.

SAJIDA Foundation has significantly expanded its Climate Change Programme, driven by its commitment to establish community-centered adaptation, promote sustainable resource management, and mobilise effective climate finance. We are seeking to onboard an experienced specialist to lead our climate change efforts in Bangladesh and Uganda. This role will be pivotal in shaping and executing a strategic vision that aligns with global climate commitments and local needs, ensuring that SAJIDA remains at the forefront of climate resilience and sustainable development.

Major Responsibilities:

Programme Strategy & Planning:

  • Update the Climate Change programme’s strategic plan to align with organisational goals and national climate action commitments.
  • Provide technical guidance on climate vulnerability assessments, adaptation planning, and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework for the climate change programme.

Programme Implementation and Reporting:

  • Conduct technical reviews of existing climate change projects, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation of ongoing climate change projects, ensuring adherence to work plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project managers and field staff to ensure efficient, high-quality project delivery, applying best practices in project management for consistency and success.
  • Establish and monitor project performance indicators, using data to inform adaptive management and improve outcomes.

Partnership & Representation

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector actors working on climate change.
  • Collaborate with national and international partners to leverage resources, share knowledge, and advocate for effective climate action.
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge products and policy briefs, to highlight programme impact and lessons learned.

Project Design & Development

  • Collaborate with the Partnership and Fundraising unit to engage with development partners.
  • Identify climate-related needs and collaborate on developing impactful project proposals which align with national goals.
