Education

Para Medical or Nursing/Health Assistant course is required, and relevant training is desirable

Additional Requirements

  • Age 18 to 59 years

Desirable: 06 Months experience in similar position.

Local language.Bangla/Rohingya/Chittagonian) essential. Mission language (English) desirable.

Responsibilities & Context

Main Purpose

Assisting in the nursing activities with hospitalized patients, according to nurses and doctors prescription, universal hygiene standards and MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients.

Accountabilities

•          As directed assisting the nurse in organizing and providing care and treatments to patients, respecting at all times, the rules of hygiene, safety, comfort, dignity, medical secret and patient confidentiality. As requested  responding to nurse’s requirements in case of an emergency.

•          Participating in the surveillance and monitoring of the patient and reporting to the nurse any relevant information. Compensating patients’ possible lack of autonomy by assisting and helping them in feeding, personal hygiene, movements and general comfort

•          Reporting any problem arising in the care unit, especially the loss, robbery or damage of equipment or medicines.

•          Ensuring cleanliness of his/her working environment (including facilities, material, linen, equipment, and carrying out the sorting and disposal of waste)

•          Working together with the nurses, cleaners and care-takers.

•          Participating actively in the hospital platform (meetings, committee,.), trainings and in the basic health education sessions

•          Participating in any other related activities as requested by the line managerPerforming minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

General Responsibilities :

•          As directed by the nurse in the health facility (OPD and IPD settings) , respecting at all times, the rules of hygiene, safety, comfort, dignity, medical secret and patient confidentiality. Giving response to nurse’s requirements in case of an emergency

•          Reporting to the nurse any health relevant information in the OPD area and IPD (wards),Compensating patients’ possible lack of autonomy by assisting and helping them in feeding, personal hygiene, movements and general comfort

•          Reporting any problem arising in the care unit, especially the loss, robbery or damage of equipment or medicines.

•          Ensuring cleanliness of his/her working environment (including facilities, material, linen, equipment, and carrying out the sorting and disposal of waste)

•          Working together with the nurses, cleaners and care-takers

•          Participate  trainings and in the basic health education sessions

•          Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following instruction . Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.

Reception and follow up of patients:

•          Receiving and installing the patients on their arrival in the service

•          Informing patients of how the service functions and the modalities to be followed

•          Helping the nurse to take and interpret parameters (temperature, heart and respiratory rates, blood pressure, state of consciousness, weight, etc)

•          Carrying out all care delegated by the nurse: damping down, changing urine collectors, parachecks, etc.

•          Taking daily measures to ensure the hygiene and comfort of bed-ridden patients: washing, installation for eating meals, changing position, etc

•          Seeing to patients’ security

•          Helping to position patients correctly during medical acts

•          Watching over food intake and helping during meals if necessary

•          Watching over adequate liquid intake

•          Informing the nurse in case of changes in health status

•          Reassuring and informing patients and the persons accompanying them throughout their facility visit.

•          Setting up health education sessions according to needs.

Hygiene in the service:

•          Ensuring adequate hygiene conditions in the patients’ environment: clean beds, clean floors, clean furniture, etc

•          Carrying out the sorting and correct disposal of waste

•          Ensuring the availability of water, soap and disinfectants for hand washing and general hygiene in the service

•          Preparing disinfectant solutions following doses, dilution and usage conditions

•          Cleaning and decontaminating used instruments according to the protocol in use

•          Ensuring they are sent to the sterilization service/recuperating and storing instruments already sterilized

Liaison between the different services:

•          Ensuring the transfer and transport of patients between the different services and departments

•          Transporting samples destined for the laboratory and collecting the results on a daily basis

•          Helping to keep the pharmacy in order

Specific tasks:

Upon completion of certificate training by MoH/ recognized by MoH, he/she can be attached/delegate to support :

•          Surveillance: collection and compilation of regular clinic data as per delegation

•          Nutrition: nutritional assessments including measurement of BMI and MUAC, monitoring of malnourished children under supervision by ward/in charge in ATFC/ITFC which includes daily weight measurements/ preparation of feeds and monitoring of feeding schedules etc.

EPI program, including routine and vaccinations campaigns which may involve registration of patients, pushing of vaccines through intra-muscular route, proper disposal of vaccine waste as per guideline and support in report documentations.
