Job Context:
Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Limited (BPCL) is looking for a Hub Manager to lead the Recycle Business Unit by the World Bank Funded Plastic Waste Management & Recycling Project.
BPCL has pioneered the concept of creating worth out of waste in Bangladesh, the nation’s first and only post-consumer food-grade PET bottle-to-bottle recycling plant. BPCL was incorporated in 2011 and started its commercial operation in July 2016.
Overview:
The primary objective of the project is to formalize the Plastic Recycling Value Chain to ensure the steady collection of recyclable plastic (RP) removing them from the environment by establishing “collection hubs” or recycling business units (RBUs) across Bangladesh. These RBUs will facilitate plastic waste transportation, storage, and processing.
The Project is co-funded by the World Bank and Parley for the Oceans and implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), supported by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the PET bottle collection, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
- Develop and implement operational procedures for bottle collection, sorting, and storage.
- Monitor and maintain hub equipment and infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency.
- Recruit local casual workers, train, and manage hub staff, including collection teams, sorters, and administrative personnel.
- Act as the primary point of contact between BPCL, local authorities, community groups, and other stakeholders involved in the recycling program.
- Collaborate with local businesses, schools, and organizations to promote PET bottle collection initiatives.
- Coordinate and oversee the collection logistics, including scheduling pick-ups and managing collection routes.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on collection volumes, operational performance, and financial status to BPCL.
- Maintain accurate records of all hub activities, including collection data, staff performance, and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with BPCL’s environmental policies, local regulations, and safety standards.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect staff and ensure a safe working environment·
- Monitor financial performance and ensure cost-effective operations.· Develop and execute community outreach programs to raise awareness about PET bottle recycling and encourage participation.
- Organize events, workshops, and campaigns to promote recycling and sustainability practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to recycling and sustainability.
