Job Introduction:
The BBC’s World Service Group delivers international news output and comprises of BBC World Service, BBC World News television, BBC Monitoring and the BBC’s international online news services. Together, these services provide a focal point for viewers and listeners around the world. The World Service sits within this broader division, delivering journalism on TV, radio and online across the globe in 42 languages.
BBC News Bangla is a well-known and highly respected news service in Bangladesh, providing up-to-date news and current affairs and covering both domestic and international news stories. It is multiplatform, with a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text, interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms, and a TV news programme. The service aims to make international news relevant to Bangladesh audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Bangladesh and global developments. Our service brings quality, impartial, original journalism with news and current affairs to the Bangla speaking region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and publishing all social media output, digital content and videos to serve our Bangla audiences. You will collaborate with other editors to create and deliver on a social media strategy that increases traffic for Bangla’s digital and social platforms.
Connecting with underserved audiences is important for BBC News Bangla, and the successful candidate will seek ways to reach female and younger audiences and will implement plans to improve engagement.
Job Responsibilities:
- To produce impactful original content on a daily basis for online and social media
- To produce, curate and distribute digital content, videos, and innovative editorial projects for online and social platforms, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and others, as relevant to Bangla-speaking audiences.
- To ensure BBC Bangla’s social media newsgathering for digital content adheres to the standards of excellence and efficiency required of BBC World Service, and complies fully with the BBC’s editorial guidelines and objectives
- Responsible for coming up with creative and innovative ways in storytelling and doing them for BBC Bangla especially for social media consumption.
- To help carry out strategic editorial development of BBC digital offering in BBC Bangla, working closely with the Editor.
- To play a role in driving traffic to the site and to our social media platforms
- Actively seek ways to reach more female audiences and introduce and implement strategies to improve engagement with them.
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- Ability to work flexibly including early/late shifts, weekends and public holidays.
