Responsibilities & Context
A Junior JAVA Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) specializing in Java typically has responsibilities centered around ensuring the quality of software products through testing, automation, and collaboration with development teams.
Core Responsibilities
1. Test Automation Development
– Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using Java and testing frameworks such as Selenium, TestNG, or JUnit.
– Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
2. Manual Testing
– Conduct exploratory and manual testing to identify bugs in software systems when automation isn’t feasible.
– Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to understand requirements and design effective test cases.
3. Bug Reporting and Tracking
– Identify, document, and track defects using bug tracking tools like Jira.
– Work with developers to reproduce, debug, and resolve reported issues.
4. Test Framework Maintenance
– Maintain and enhance the existing test automation framework to ensure scalability and ease of use.
– Implement best practices for code quality in test scripts.
5. Code Reviews and Collaboration
– Participate in code reviews for test scripts and contribute to improving team standards.
– Collaborate with development teams to ensure testability of the code and alignment with business requirements.
6. Performance and Security Testing
– Contribute to performance testing using tools like JMeter or Gatling.
– Assist in identifying security vulnerabilities during testing.
7. Continuous Integration & Deployment (CI/CD)
– Support the creation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to facilitate automated testing during deployments.
– Monitor test results and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
