Requirements

Education

  • MBBS from an accredited Medical College with at least one year training in relevant field (e.g. biochemistry, pathology), or
  • BSc in Laboratory Science from an accredited academic institution.

Experience

  • At least 2 years

Additional Requirements

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in relevant field, specially in operation and supervision of a laboratory
  • Experience in laboratory supervision in humanitarian setting will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience with working in the UN organization/ Internationally reputed organizations or in such a field of medical emergency and humanitarian program will be added as an advantage.

Responsibilities & Context

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop guidelines and standard operating procedures for laboratories including, operation, quality control, infection prevention and control and biosafety.
  • Periodic visits to IOM laboratories to implement, supervise and monitor implementation of the standard procedures.
  • Supportive supervision of Lab Technologist to ensure they maintain standard policies and procedures.
  • Assign and guide lab technologists to collect, process and send samples properly and follows standard operating procedure.
  • Follow-up proper implementation of all laboratory procedure as per standard guidelines, including –
  • Preparing blood, urine, stool and other body fluid for analysis.
  • Daily and weekly maintaining of different analyzer.
  • Operating and calibrating equipment.
  • Preparing cultures of tissue samples.
  • Establishing and monitoring programs that ensure data accuracy.
  • Microscopically examination slides of bodily fluids.
  • Chemically analyzing blood or urine for toxic components.
  • Analyzing lab reports for accuracy.
  • Work closely with medical logistic team to ensure consistent supply of all laboratory materials including reagents.
  • Provide guidance to ensure maintenance of cold chain for reagents and any other temperature-controlled materials.
  • Ensure functionality of lab equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Develop a strategic plan for capacity development of Lab Technicians, which includes but not limited to trainings, supportive supervision, on-job trainings and developing job-aids.
  • Ensure logistics coordination for the transport of samples.
  • Coordinate with other NGOs and government stakeholders to receive samples in the respiratory illness facility.
  • Maintain quality and assurance of the testing and its reports. Establish functional system for internal and external quality control.
  • Ensure maintenance of all logs required for the laboratory, data collections, processing and reporting.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Monthly gross salary for this position is BDT 120,860.00.
