Additional Requirements

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience will be given preference, preferably in the shipping or logistics industry.
• Legal Knowledge: Must have sound knowledge on Bill of lading Act 1856, Carriage of Goods by Sea Act (COGSA) 1936, Contract Act, 1872, Admiralty Act, 2000, Bangladesh Custom Act 1969, Bangladesh Port Authority Act 1976, International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS, 1974), Hague-Visby Rules (1968), ICC Arbitration Rules (latest edition) etc.
• Communication Skills: Excellent proficiency in English and Bengali for legal drafting and negotiations.
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex legal issues and provide strategic solutions.
• Tech Skills: Familiarity with legal software, case management tools and documentation systems. Should have proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools and excellence in IT.
• Certifications: Membership with Bangladesh Bar Council (preferred but not mandatory).

Position Overview:

We are looking for a Legal Officer to oversee legal affairs related to shipping operations, contracts, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of maritime law, corporate legal processes, and international trade regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Legal Compliance: Ensure the company complies with Bangladesh Shipping laws, international maritime regulations, and other industry standards.
• Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, clients, and stakeholders.
• Regulatory Affairs: Liaise with government authorities, port authorities, and regulatory bodies on legal matters.
• Dispute Resolution: Handle shipping disputes, insurance claims, and contract enforcement issues.
• Arbitration & Mediation: Manage legal matters related to maritime arbitration, corporate mediation, and international dispute settlement.
• Risk Assessment: Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of legal proceedings, agreements, and correspondence.
• Advisory Role: Provide legal counsel to management on corporate governance, business policies, and compliance matters.
